Mark, Randy, and Russell – Thanks so much for getting together with Bob. It sounds like a fun time was had by all. Glad he came back to visit us. Hope to be able to make it the next time he comes around.
porsche917ModeratorRandy – I agree with you. It would have been good to just keep this as stock as possible. There is always next time.

There are not only big differences in the width of the cars, there are big differences in the width of the stock tires. Having said that, you can get a 3D chassis for the Monogram Porsche 904 that will allow you to use hubless 10mm width wheels and tires.
I think the best way to avoid the tire and car width issue is to mandate a tire width. Find a tire-wheel combination that works and mandate that. You can also adjust the rear track on most cars to bring them all very close to the same rear width. The wider bodies will look really funny with the wheels pushed all the way in but that is a way to level the playing field.
I prefer to limit the cars by having mandatory parts requirements more than a random calculation to level the performance of cars.
Marc – you are the expert with these smaller “build” cars and are better equipped than the rest of us to suggest a specific wheel/tire make, model and size. Throw something out and let’s see how it works.
porsche917ModeratorHeads Up – Finding Thunderslot parts is becoming more difficult. I was looking for a motor to replace one of mine and could not find one anywhere in the States or in Europe. I managed to find one on eBay but I noticed that many of the Thunderslot parts, not just motors, were sold out. If you need a part you should get it before the supply issue gets any worse.

I might be missing something here about the availability and ease of use of a metal chassis but I would be concerned there would only be a few members that would want to put the work into finding the right one and learning how to set it up.
I am worried about making the rules too difficult for members to participate. It’s already challenging for some members to prepare a spec car much less a builders car. I think it would add another layer of difficulty that might push members away from running the series. One of the key factors to consider in running any series is the level of participation. If only half the club participates then it’s not a great series to run. The easier we can make things for members the better it will be for the club as a whole.

My example: I think I am going to run an MRRC Porsche 904GTS which is a very narrow car and is much narrower that the Fly 911 I was going to run. Even with the narrow width of the Porsche 904GTS I can still mount 10mm wide tires front and rear using a 3D chassis and CB Design wheels. I believe these wider wheels/tires on a narrow chassis will be the best of both worlds and be hard to beat.
We might want to take a look at the old Mille Miliga rules from 2012. The rules stated that the widest tire you could use was 9mm with either a 22mm or 20mm diameter. This alone could do a lot to level the performance. NSR make a selection of 8mm width tires that we could look at using for this series.
The rules for the 2012 Mille Miliga were very simple. I have them below for review.
porsche917ModeratorAll – Here are all of the Slot.it Group C race results for the past six, sort of, years. Want to know if you have your car set up to be competitive? Just check out these times as your guide. Good luck in setting up your car for the upcoming 2022 Slot.it Group C series.
porsche917ModeratorRandy and All,

porsche917ModeratorLooking forward to this annual classic. Hope to see more variety this year. I hope to see Steve run his Nissan and Marc run his Mercedes. Let’s hope for more makes.
porsche917ModeratorRussell – Thanks for the additional information. The track looks nice.
Time to look for some AFX G-Plus cars. I wish I had my old collection.
porsche917ModeratorI like the layout. Would the track sit in some other material so the edge of the track would have a border with a smooth transition? I think your current HO track is like that.
porsche917ModeratorRussell and All – The NSR replacement chassis’ I received run two different grub screw sizes. The lower grub screw is the standard NSR sized grub screw while the upper one is a Slot.it sized grub screw. When installing the lower NSR grub screw it feels like it’s too big and will break the chassis but they do fit. The chassis will budge out a little but that is the correct grub screw to use. There are no issues with the upper grub screws.
I don’t know if this is consistent with all the chassis but it is for the three replacement chassis I received. Of the three chassis I purchased – one green and two white – the green one did not come with grub screws but both white ones did. The screws that came with the chassis were two different sizes.

There is virtually no weight hanging over the back end. The little wheelbase should work well on the rally track. Can’t wait to see it.
Porsche 904? What the heck? I had no idea the 904 had done the Monte. That is crazy.
