ParticipantWill they allow fantasy liveries?

ParticipantI’m starting to think this is more trouble than its worth. By the VDS Z4 do you mean #SC-7059? And what’s the Japanese car? The Scale Auto website does not list any R4 chassis on Z4s. The #SC-7059 is listed with a SC-8000 R2 chassis. 132SlotCar.us doesn’t say crap about the chassis, although they do list numbers for chassis parts.

Is any 1/24 Scale Auto car eligible? I am thinking about getting a BMW. M3 or Z4? What Z4 do you have?

ParticipantThanks for posting the AFX photos; it brings back a lot of memories. I started with the Model Motoring A/C “Vibrator” set in 1961 before moving on to T-Jet and then AFX in 1969. The Vibrator cars had a controller that looked similar to the controllers in your photos; the A/C wreaked havoc with TV reception whenever I ran the cars.
It seems we cannot post photos in replies, so I added a separate post with photos of a Tyco track I built in the Eighties.

ParticipantWhat a fantastic article! Those pictures are great. I haven’t started on my car for this series yet. You’ve set the bar pretty high.

I highly recommend “Hot Rods And Custom Classics” by Rhino. Unfortunately it is currently out of print and NOS copies are going for $200. Check out the song listing and info on Amaxon: https://www.amazon.com/Rods-Custom-Classics-Various-Artists/dp/B00000I5M0/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1343335714&sr=1-1&keywords=hot+rods+and+custom+classics
This set was produced in conjunction with Steve Wertheimer at the Continental Club and came in the size and shape of a model car box and included fuzzy dice, a keychain, Moon Equipment catalog.

ParticipantI like Ary’s idea. I especially like trying something different. It would need some tweaking. If I am interpreting what Ary is saying correctly, each driver, driving every car in every lane would be an awful lot of heats. Figuring 8, drivers that would mean each driver would run in 24 heats and the total number of heats run would be very large.

ParticipantI would not necessarily be opposed to banning F series tires, but I did the test runs last Saturday at 10.5V. and 11V. using F30’s. I found the car OK to drive with these tires but I do not know how it would have driven with P6’s. I would like to test with P6’s at these voltages if we will have to use them. This could affect my decision on what voltage to run.

A thorough, professional, and clearly explained treatise on Slot.It gears. Very useful information.

I understand about gettting the proper gearing to get the proper wheel speed. But, comparing Motor A, with lower RPM, and the necessity to go to a taller (numerically lower) gear setup, such as 2.4::1, and Motor B, with a higher RPM, and a gear setup of, say, 2.7::1, would not Motor B have more torque at the wheel and the ability to accelerate faster? All this being dependent upon controllability, of course.
