Completing theTara Florio would be a good thing. It would also mean the track will be uncovered , and possibly accessible for some landscaping work.
Lukewarn on Ford Vs Ferrari. Would be interesting only if the series is open to other cars on the Le Mans /Daytona /Sebring grids during that time period. Otherwise it will be an awfully monotonous grid.
George Turner Chaparral 2DI’m really liking the looks of the BRM 1/24 saloon racers. Especially if we open it up to Model kit body swaps.
I was kidding about the Pre-war scratch-build series. Kinda wish I wasn’t.

-Warren ZevonPosting here in 2019 for now…
Anyone have a part number handy fo the slot it group c rear wheels? Would like to have an extra set with wheels mounted, if possible.

-Warren ZevonRussell I have three 10 inch solid rubber wheels and a 5/8 inch axle awaiting another project. They could be made available for this, if needed.

-Warren ZevonI have 2 moving dollies that can be used. I imagine it will take at least 6 to move the big track.. I also have a relatively low profile floor jack it that will help.
The weekend of July 20 I have caretaker duty with my Father in law. Otherwise I can make myself available

-Warren ZevonOnly vehicles driven by Cannonball Baker allowed? 😉

-Warren ZevonThe cable kinda serves double duty. Half (the half with the COE) is the Body Snatchers vignette. The other half is a bit hard to see, but it’s from 20 Million miles to Earth, the Stop motion monster in the burning barn. You can barely see him in the pic with the Cobra headed toward camera.
Yes, I should clean up some of the 1/43 cars, and run them again.

-Warren ZevonMarc – do you have a vacuform machine/heater? I have a body project for you or Russ.
I have a kind of clunky home-made one. What you need made?

-Warren ZevonI have left a supply of Thunderslot tires (not legal for racing, but good for practice) in the club room on the same shelf as the power supplies. Please help yourself but don’t be piggy, and please let me know when supplies run low.
Along with the tires, are some mounting supplies. Some measuring cups, stirrers, and toothpicks for application of glue.
The glue is Smooth-On Ure-Bond III a two part flexible urethane adhesive. It has a pot life of 5-10 minutes, depending on temperature, and a cure time of 24 hours. Mix is 1:1 by volume. I have been using the mixing cups to pour out 5ml of each, which is a lot for a couple tires, but any less and it might be tough to get proportions right. You can always try blobbing out a bit of A and B on a card, or other clean surface like you would epoxy. Like epoxy one of the components is more viscous than the other, just something to be aware of.
Once you mix, the clock is ticking, so make sure you have everything prepared in advance.
Uncured glue can be cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol. Once it’s cured it can be a bear to remove. so prepare a work area with some newspaper or similar.-Marc T.

-Warren ZevonI’ll also be bringing some of the home-brew tires Saturday, if you want to use them to run practice laps, or to experiment with.

-Warren ZevonMark, My printer is a DLP resin printer with a small build volume. Not big enough for chassis, and the resin is way too brittle. I may be investing in an FDM printer, we’re looking into producing larger scale figures.
There’s always Shapeways.

-Warren Zevon“This all looks like fun…I’d love to experiment with creating tire compounds – but wanted to be sure you realize the rules for ThunderSlot say this:
Rear: OEM Treaded Tires (TYC002R) or Upgrade slick 19X10mm (TYR004R standard) allowed.
Therefore, home-made tires would not be allowed without a rule change (which may be warranted due to the lack of tire availability). ????”Yeah, I do realize, but it was the lack of availability (and the poor quality of the OEM tires) that prompted me to do this. Unfortunately, they can’t be cranked out quickly enough to have a supply ready for everyone right away. Still working out kinks, it looks like the most time consuming method is the only viable option.
The rubber needs to be fully cured under pressure, which takes up a pressure pot needed for producing figures.
Even with de-airing the rubber, some little bubbles remain that create weak spots.

-Warren ZevonThe next morning the mold is opened

Urethane is next. This is a 30 shore Urethane from Smooth-On
[attachment file=”08-urethane.jpg”]
Black colorant is added, parts a and b are mixed, de-aired in a vacuum chamber and poured (very slowly) into the molds

Next step: See if they fit.

-Warren ZevonI’m not convinced the tires that shipped with my T/S Lola are urethane. Vinyl, perhaps? I did run Saturday after the Group C race.
"Enjoy every sandwich"
-Warren ZevonAnother question. Is it within the rules to replace the unforgivably bad driver figure with a decent one, provided it does not weigh less than the O.E.M. part?
