Mel,
I generally like to have the front tires just touch the track to help reduce some of the drag on the guide just a little bit. It’s a fine balance. If you have the tires riding up and all the pressure on the guide you might be slightly slower because of the friction/drag.
I agree with Russell’s statement – If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Many a slot car racer has fallen victim to messing with their car too much and watching the performance go backwards.
Best of luck with it!

porsche917ModeratorAll,
Due to the lack of durability in the stock BRM rear tires, the rules have been updated with a change to a required spec tire – Paul Gage, urethane, shore 20, part #XPG-21125LMDF. These tires are available from Slot Car Corner.
These tires will need to be glued to the rims, trued, and have their edges rounded to work well. These tires will not have the same level of grip as the stock tires but they will last significantly longer and be much easier to true.
The rules have been updated to reflect this change.

porsche917ModeratorThanks for posting. He was a little different as the obituary says, but he was fun to have around and race with. He will be missed.
I like the idea of naming the bridge after him.

porsche917ModeratorAll,
I love this idea. I think it would also give us a way to try out cars for new series before we vote on running a full series with them.
I will put this on the agenda for the next club meeting.
Please add any races you would like to see the club run.

Oh, and I like your ideas.
I think it is worth a look and we would have some other options. On your topic of El Piloto and 1off races, I am in the process of building 3 fly BMW 320/M3 cars and hope to get them decent-tuned to see what everyone thinks about them.
More parts are in the mail, but Thursday I was turning an average of 4.3sec on 12volts.Lance
porsche917ModeratorYes, yes it is. Nice choice.
Marty
porsche917ModeratorThanks for the additional information. Looking forward to seeing these cars on the track.

porsche917ModeratorI found Bruno Saby out practicing in his Renault 5 Turbo. There is a possibility he will be entering the Monte Carlo series in the under 8mm tire size. Interesting.
porsche917ModeratorI tried to remove it so I could refit it where it would be more flush with the back of the chassis but no luck. I eventually ended up sanding it down a little to give me some clearance. I have repainted the piece so it would not look that much different.

porsche917ModeratorI’m having a big problem with my Ferrari. After truing my rear wheels and putting my car on the track to test the wheels just spun and were not making contact with the track. I then realized what was happening. A piece of the body was poorly installed and was hitting the track, not allowing the wheels to contract the track.
I am writing this to ask the race director to allow me to sand down the part of the Ferrari body that is making contact with the track. Here is more information to support my request.
I trued the rear wheels just to make them flat across the surface and not to remove extra material to lower the car. I removed 0.27mm of material as you can see from the pics. The top pic shows an untrued tire and the lower one shows my trued tire for comparison.
As you can see there is only .27mm of material removed.
The Ferrari body part that is making contact with the track can be seen in these photos. You can see how it was installed at an angle where the back piece of the part makes contact with the track.
You can see that the body part was installed at an angle that makes the back of the body part contact the track.
I am hoping to be able to sand this poorly installed piece so my car will actually run as intended.
porsche917ModeratorVery nice! Thanks for making this.

porsche917ModeratorThanks for the information. They carry an amazing selection of decals.
porsche917ModeratorTanner – I don’t think that car will be allowed as it has a metal chassis. Usually, only plastic chassis are allowed unless the series is for BRM or RevoSlot where those cars all run a metal chassis. I am not the series director but I am sure he will have rules posted shortly that will help everyone make a car selection.
porsche917ModeratorRandy – Happy to hear you were able to get your times down. I will say these cars like to be as low to the track as possible. I would remove the spring from the guide and see how low you can get the front of the car so the entire guide, with new thin braid, can get in the slot. As Chubby Checkers says “How low can you go?”
