“I am a strong proponent of a 1/32 TransAm race with 3d chassis. Maybe limit to less than 25k motors for slightly more realistic speed”
Heck, limit it to 18k to cut down on de-slots and rollovers.
Would this also include an under 2.5L class?
DattoParticipantSweet looking track, Marty!
DattoParticipant“Marc – I love the idea. I would be up for running just about anything on your track. I think it might be best to run something we have already run so there is no additional cost to members to build another car for this one-off event.”
Marty:
Something we have already run is a great idea. Perhaps even a non-points race of a current series.Really like the IROC idea.
Frantically ironing out kinks on the track, LOL
DattoParticipantSo,to elaborate a bit on the offsite race discussed at the Sept 25 meeting,
My thought is that we could have a one-off event out here in the sticks at my wood track. It is two lanes, yellow is 34.33 ft, and green is 33,5 ft. It can be run in either direction, and each lane has its own variable power supply. My suggestion was for a one-off race with the Policar vintage F1 cars, but it could be something else. I’d like to invite club members to make the trip down, run some laps, and give some input on what might be fun for you to run. Just let me know if you are interested, and we can set up a time.
I see the race happening in the spring so if there is a good turnout we can overflow into the carport and have a cookout

DattoParticipantWould love to see another decade of the Monte 🙂
I have also been having fun with the Policar vintage F1. They look great And can be made to run well without breaking the bank.

DattoParticipantMark, thanks! No I just thought the McLaren looked kinda sci-fi ish so I found some Gundam decals on Amazon. Wish I had a decent color printer:)
DattoParticipantI will be part of the swamp with A MCClaren 720
But at least it will be in Gundam Livery

DattoParticipantIt’s a Saab, so I figured go weird, or go home. Printed 16 body is reinforced with fiberglass, and pictures is first prototype of a FWD angle winder chassis. I wonder how, or if it will go!

DattoParticipantHere is one of the cars I plan to run, a 1961 Corvair
I have a running car, or I had, anyway. The 3D printing resin I have ben using takes beautiful detail, but is brittle. I reinforced the horizontal surfaces (Front trunk lid, roof and rear deck but a fall to the floor found the weakness.
I started out trying to make vac-form tool for glazing with clay, but decided to do it in the ‘puter

Monte Carly Rally Revival 1961-1971 Innovation and Controversy
The Monte Carlo Rally was begun in 1911 to showcase advances in automotive technology, and to promote Monaco as a tourist destination. The decade between 1961, and ’71 developed into a contentious arms-race of creative engineering, and creative interpretation of rules. This is builders series designed to encourage scratch-building and kit-bashing, but RTR cars are welcome .
To be held on ASCC Rally track
One of the aims of this series is to see a variety of cars and approaches.Cars eligible:
Any car that ran the Monte between 1961, and 1971 Entrants should have some info and documentation on this. Cars should be a reasonable 1/32 depiction of the prototype.Classes:
Entries will be divided into 2 classes
Class A: Cars with rear tire width (at bulge) 9mm and wider. Motor choice is open
Class B: Card with rear tire width (at bulge) under 9mm. Motors limited to 18k RPM and lowerMultiple entries are permitted, but each entry will require a unique driver persona for the scoring software.
Model configuration:
Any hard plastic injection molded or resin cast 1/32model. (No vacuum formed shells) RTR slot cars /shells are allowed, but are not eligible for Concours. Cars must have interior tray (Vac form permitted) and figures for driver (with steering wheel) and navigator. Fantasy liveries allowed, but must be true to the period.Chassis/Drive configuration
Chassis: Any plastic or printed chassis. May be stiffened/reinforced.
Motor:
ClassA: Open to all commercially available, unmodified motors.
Class B: Open to all commercially available, unmodified motors rated at or below 18k rpm
Guide/braid/motor leads: open
Gearing: open
Axles, front/rear: open
Ballast permitted, no weight limit imposed.
Ground clearance: Must not damage track, copper tape or timing system.Wheels/Tires:
Wheels to be a good faith effort to depict wheels on prototype vehicles. Wheels/tires must* not protrude beyond wheel arches as viewed from above. (If prototype car had wheels protruding beyond arches, documentation must be provided to scrutineer, and must be to scale) Wheel inserts or wheels with scale detail are required. Maximum tire with front and rear (at bulge)
Class A: 9mm and above
Class B less than 9mm)
Tire diameter should be scale to prototype within 10% after truing. Rubber or urethane tires allowed. Coating of front tires with nail varnish or C/A, etc. is allowed.
SILICONE TIRES PROHIBITED.November 9, 2021 at 9:38 AM in reply to: Proposed 2022 Race Series – Monte Carlo Rally ’61-’71 Proposed builder’s series for rally track #17186DattoParticipant[postquote quote=17183]
It might be best for encouraging participation and variety toped up the motor category
Steve at SCC was wiling to part with 10 motors, total, and as you say, determining the mix would be a moving target.Randy, RE: concours, I think the idea of requiring only one race for eligibility is a good one.
If your scratch or kit bash car participated, it is eligibleRE: lights. The photo of the Z Marty sent me looks like it has 5 inch rally lights (assuming the sealed beam headlights are 7 inch) That would make for 5.5mm lights. Are there any other sizes, I should be considering making up?
November 5, 2021 at 10:09 AM in reply to: Proposed 2022 Race Series – Monte Carlo Rally ’61-’71 Proposed builder’s series for rally track #17159DattoParticipantI will be making up some rally lights for folks to use on their builds (thanks for the suggestion, Mark)
I could make up solid bits that you paint oand stick on, or I could make lights with clear vac-form lenses that require some assembly.

Of course we could mandate the mini wheels/tires for every car, I suppose.

For some of us, the puttering is a big part of the fun.
