I have left a supply of Thunderslot tires (not legal for racing, but good for practice) in the club room on the same shelf as the power supplies. Please help yourself but don’t be piggy, and please let me know when supplies run low.

Along with the tires, are some mounting supplies. Some measuring cups, stirrers, and toothpicks for application of glue.

The glue is Smooth-On Ure-Bond III a two part flexible urethane adhesive. It has a pot life of 5-10 minutes, depending on temperature, and a cure time of 24 hours. Mix is 1:1 by volume. I have been using the mixing cups to pour out 5ml of each, which is a lot for a couple tires, but any less and it might be tough to get proportions right. You can always try blobbing out a bit of A and B on a card, or other clean surface like you would epoxy. Like epoxy one of the components is more viscous than the other, just something to be aware of.

Once you mix, the clock is ticking, so make sure you have everything prepared in advance.
Uncured glue can be cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol. Once it’s cured it can be a bear to remove. so prepare a work area with some newspaper or similar.

I’ll also be bringing some of the home-brew tires Saturday, if you want to use them to run practice laps, or to experiment with.

Mark, My printer is a DLP resin printer with a small build volume. Not big enough for chassis, and the resin is way too brittle. I may be investing in an FDM printer, we’re looking into producing larger scale figures.

          There’s always Shapeways.

“This all looks like fun…I’d love to experiment with creating tire compounds – but wanted to be sure you realize the rules for ThunderSlot say this:

Rear: OEM Treaded Tires (TYC002R) or Upgrade slick 19X10mm (TYR004R standard) allowed.
Therefore, home-made tires would not be allowed without a rule change (which may be warranted due to the lack of tire availability). ????”

Yeah, I do realize, but it was the lack of availability (and the poor quality of the OEM tires) that prompted me to do this. Unfortunately, they can’t be cranked out quickly enough to have a supply ready for everyone right away. Still working out kinks, it looks like the most time consuming method is the only viable option.

The rubber needs to be fully cured under pressure, which takes up a pressure pot needed for producing figures.

Even with de-airing the rubber, some little bubbles remain that create weak spots.

The next morning the mold is opened

Urethane is next. This is a 30 shore Urethane from Smooth-On

Black colorant is added, parts a and b are mixed, de-aired in a vacuum chamber and poured (very slowly) into the molds

Next step: See if they fit.

I’m not convinced the tires that shipped with my T/S Lola are urethane. Vinyl, perhaps? I did run Saturday after the Group C race.

Another question. Is it within the rules to replace the unforgivably bad driver figure with a decent one, provided it does not weigh less than the O.E.M. part?

If rubber is that hard to come by, I could make tires, and make them available to everybody (Like, for free) I do realize that is not within the rules, however.

I wanted to give the Thunderjet, err, Thunderslot a go, so I ordered a car, and It showed up today. Couple of questions.

Is the light blue Andretti #21 car spoken for again this go-round? If so I can re-number or paint.

Also, the stock tires (rears) on the model I received have really nasty, distorted injection sites. I doubt the tires can be trued. Is this normal?

                          1. If you do Not have the adjustable chassis the replacement is: Slot.it SICS08T-60B Lancia LC2 Chassis EVO6, https://www.professormotor.com/product-p/sics08t-60b.htm<span class=”wpel-icon wpel-image wpel-icon-9″></span><span class=”wpel-icon wpel-image wpel-icon-9″></span>

                          2. F30s are easy to find and *if needed* buy some from a club member (I have some spares as do most members). In lieu of cash, trade them the ones you ordered when they arrive, no need to wait on the shipment. Ditto for other common parts such as the deep wood guide Slot.it SICH07 and braid.

Adjustable chassis: Check. Set screws: Check

Tires and guide have not shown up yet. Ordered from Scaleracing

Yes, thanks, Russell! Turns out I do have the adjustable chassis. Grub screws and deep wood guide are on order, but looks like I will miss the first race. Caretaker duty with my Father-in-law.

                            I expect a full report 😉

Erick – Last time I checked Kings had some F30’s in stock. If they don’t, 132slotcar.us has them in stock.

Chassis – I don’t know if your new car comes with the adjustable chassis but if it does not it is well worth the $10 to get one. The other thing you would want to do is “bake” the chassis to make it as flat as possible. I can do it for you if you are not set up for it.

Looking forward to running with you.

i think mine is the adjustable chassis (new to RTR stuff) There are little inserts with the front axle bushings (plastic) and little removable caps on the axle lower limit spacers.

I watched your video on truing the chassis, but the only semi dependably flat piece of iron I have is the band saw table, and that’s maybe a bit big, and attached to the band saw 😉

Mark, thank you for all the advice and information. I did not know about the Saturday morning practice time (Thursday nights will be difficult for me)

I did make the plunge and by the Lancia LC2 in a green and red livery, wearing #6. Seems to have shipped with the yellow (28 tooth?) Crown.

Glad to know I can use the club controller, mine just send cars into the wall (Profesor Motor Carerra)

i have been looking at slot car corner and Prof motor for the tires. Zero grip seem available, but I’m not finding F30 for the rears.

AS far as expectations, for starters, I aim not to make the marshalls hate me 🙂
