Once again, the historic Trans Am Racing cars roared onto the road course at King’s, engines revving to an atmospheric 25,000 rpm. A field of 7 cars competed in the penultimate round of the 2014 Trans Am championship.
After a hiatus, Ary returned to competition in the Sunoco Camaro in the Blue lane and wasted no time in battling for position with Marty’s Camaro in Yellow. Russell, in the Chaparral Camaro, struggled to keep up. In the end, Ary won the heat by a lap over the #46 Camaro, 69 laps to 68 laps with Russell in third with 65 laps.
For Heat 2, Shawn took over the Yellow lane, with Marty moving to Green, and Russell in Blue. This heat proved to be a close one, with Marty squeaking out the win, 68 laps to Shawn’s 67 and Russell’s 66. Shawn was able to record his fastest lap of the race at 4.281 sec., just two thousandths of a second off the fastest race lap of 4.279 set by Ary in the first heat.
Marty and Shawn moved to Blue and Green respectively and Jordan put the Brut Mustang in Yellow. Marty, maintaining his consistency, completed 68 laps once again for the win, followed closely by Shawn with 67. Jordan tripped the lights 62 times for third.
Shawn once again completed 67 laps in the fourth heat for the win, with Jordan at 63 laps and Mark turning 50 laps in the Yellow lane.
Heat 5 proved to be a good battle between Jordan and David, Jordan holding on for the 62 lap win and David with second at 61 laps. Mark followed in third with another 50 lap run.
Ary’s second heat race saw him run 68 laps in Yellow, with David completing 61 laps in Green and Mark improving to 52 laps in Blue.
In the final heat, Ary completed his race with 68 laps in the Green lane for a total of 205.69 laps and the overall win. David turned 61 laps once again. Russell had to pull the Chaparral Camaro from the heat after only 6 laps as excessive tire wear allowed the axle gear to contact the track surface.
Marty’s total of 204.3 laps placed him in a close second and Shawn was third with 201.46 laps. Jordan took the Group B win with 187.6 laps, David was second at 183.59 laps and Mark was third with 152.3 laps.
