Well, I do have to admit, the Porsche-Chaparral was hooked up for the second round of 4th quarter Slot.It Challenge. As my first set of Shore 30’s on the rear have worn smaller and smaller, the car seems to have picked up speed. That, combined, with a day when I was “in the zone,” resulted in a pretty dominating performance.
For the first heat, I was in the green lane, with Roy in blue, and Ary in yellow. As with the rest of the heats there were few de-slots as everyone has stepped up their game. Times and lap counts that would have won races in the past were no longer sufficient. Roy finished with 70 laps, Ary had 72 and I ran 73.
In the second heat, Ary was now in green, with me in blue and Brian in yellow. Brian ran consistent laps, as he did in the other heats as well. It was close between Brian and Ary, both finishing with 70 laps, Ary in second and Brian in third, while I completed 73 again.
Jim stepped into the yellow lane for the next heat, with Brian in green and Ary moving to blue. This heat was very competitive, with Ary coming out on top with 69 laps with Brian edging Jim, both with 68 laps.
The fourth heat was also close, with Jim in green, finishing with 69 laps, while Brian and Roy fought a very close race for first, with Brian just ahead of Roy, both with 71 laps.
For the final heat, I returned to run in the yellow lane, Roy in green and Jim in blue. Yellow used to be my least favorite lane, but I now enjoy it the best, usually resulting in my best laps. Such was the case that Saturday, as I completed 75 laps with a best time of 3.888 seconds. Roy finished with 69 laps and Jim ran 68.
After two races, the points race has tightened up, with Ary 1 point ahead of me, 18 to 17, Roy and Marty tied for third with 9, followed closely by Jim with 8. The next race is November 5 and the competition should be fierce.
