2025 Series Candidates
The agreed race series candidates are below. I have provided links to the latest version of existing series rules if we have run the series in the past, as well as links to the manufacturer’s website and vendors carrying the class. Mark provided links to the list of entrants for the Targa Florio rally race and observed a good number of RTR cars available for each date range.
I will send out a voting poll next weekend and ask that everyone cast their votes before the next race on Oct 26

I have a couple of questions that might influence my voting.
For the NSR 997 Road or Rally track proposed race, is there a limitation on whether it is a sidewinder or anglewinder?
For the Revoslot, Group 2 race, I could run my Datsun 510, correct?
And last, if selected, any advice on what to run for the Racer Sideways Group 5? I am such a threat on the track I know you will be hesitant to advise. 😉

Hi Kim,
For the Porsche spec race I think we should standardize on the sidewinder chassis. It is more “correct” for the car and simplifies setup to some extent. We have struggled getting sidewinders tuned to our track, although not impossible.
Yes to the Datsun 510.
Will need another member to weigh in on the group 5 car. I will be campaigning an M1, but I haven’t run this series in many years and never with a Racer Sideways chassis so can’t offer any help here.

Note: I edited the original list to add ‘Sidewinder’ to the NSR 997 entries. If anyone objects please speak up.
Also note that there are still angle-winder cars on the candidate list. The Toyota GT One, and the Revslot Group 2’s.

NSR 997 Spec Race
Brining the topic back to the surface regarding flipping a coin to determine which track to run on for each race in the series.
Marc and I have exchanged thoughts on this and think that if we stuck to a simple podium / points standard the scoring is simplified and standardized between tracks. This does leave the possibility of ties, but I think coming up with at tie breaker rubric would not be that challenging. For example: make the differentiator the total number of laps on the road track divided by the total time in seconds on the rally track, largest number wins the place.
Thoughts?

I agree with the points scoring for the series with big/rally heats. An alternative that also breaks the 6 race mold, run four races on each track with two in each direction on each track. The “reverse” direction on the big track would make it even more Targa Florio difficult. I’m happy either way. That really would differentiate the club champion for 2025.

Some Cars available for the 67-69 Targa Florio:
SCX has a Lancia Fulvia, and a Fiat 124, George Turner has an MGC-GT kit. I will post more as I find them.
There are also the Ford FT350, and Lola T70 from Thunderbolt, but they are too far out of scale.

I am excited! Let’s vote so I can go shopping!

Kim, I think you can find results for the races from the articles. The podium pictures and race result tables tell the story. If you notice someone finishing in top two or three places you can ask that person what they drove. In some cases the car right out of the box was best and in others the owner put a great deal of effort, parts, testing and driving skill into the results. Some members buy two cars for the class plus two or three extra motors. I am not that member! Some of us also have cars built by better racers.
I want to go shopping in at least one class, the 997 Porsche in the same livery as my 1970 Targa Florio Porsche 908/3 roadster
See you at the next race I hope. We are in need of a red car.

How much longer are we leaving the poll open? I am wondering about the results.

Is this where the polling results will be posted? (They were sent out on the mailing list). Will there be new thread set up?

Responding to some things said in the email thread about the poll results –
I haven’t been doing this long enough to be a good judge of the F22 tires. I am having a problem with my crown gear, but that might be because I lost my rear axle spacers and have not been using them. Other people seem to have some problems. That being said, we had a vote and they made the cut. I know most of you have been doing this a lot longer me, but for my 2 cents I’d say the important thing is keeping it fair. Sounds like these cars might have their quirks and those quirks are there for all of us; i.e. – it’s fair.
I agree that it’s a bummer Group C didn’t make the cut, but again we had a fair vote.
Finally (and I don’t know if this question can be answered now), seems like the Ferrari 512 and BMW could be the likely “go to” cars for the Racer Sideways Group 5 series. Do we know if any cars will be banned? I have Thanksgiving break coming up and trying to figure out which car to get so I can work on it.

An advantage to having only one rally event is it leaves more track idle time for scenic work to continue.
Group C is more a source of frustration than enjoyment for me, so I won’t miss it.
I am looking for a group 5 car as well. And I thought the Moslers were ugly!

November 3, 2024 at 1:57 PM #19828DattoParticipant
I guess the major decisions left with regards to 2025 series are scheduling, race managers, and rules.
I volunteer to be race manager for Targa Florio, and I nominate Randy to be race manager for th Revoslot SCCA B Sedan (Group 2)
-
November 3, 2024 at 2:10 PM #19829Radial TAParticipant
I voted for the top 4 of the top six. I own some Targa Florio 1966-1969 cars without 3D chassis. So I am set with buying a Revoslot Toyota GT-1. I thought the vote was the decision maker. Am I wrong?
We had a discussion at the October meeting that we could skip the Group C class this year and bring it back in 2026, so I was not surprised it did not make the top 6.
I like the 70-73 Targa Florio cars better, but can wait a year. I would like two rally races, but I do not want to sacrifice one of the chosen classes except the Toyota GT. We can run the 66-69 rally series twice, for 7 classes, late in 2025 to let scenic work go forward.

With the Racer/Sideways GRP 5, I am not seeing any new cars with an inline configuration, only angle winder. Only angle winder motor pods as well. That being the case, will the series be open to angle winder? Some of us don’t have cars yet, and some of us (ahem) Ordered a car and did not find out until looking underneath.
-
November 7, 2024 at 1:53 PM #19833KimParticipant
I hope we will allow angle winder configuration. I have the BMW 320 Fruit of the Loom livery I want to run, and it is an angle winder.

There are many Toyota GT1 cars available from the slot car dealers with various color schemes and car numbers. Are we going to try to buy different cars and post them on our website to avoid duplication? I liked that old process from my first few years when we ran one make and model each which made following my car easier.

I own the RevoSlot RS0210 Toyota GT – 1. It’s yellow with green, #99.

Kim – that will be an easy car to see on the track. I might have to wear sunglasses. Nice choice.
