It is starting to get HOT! Literally.
Summer only starts June 20 but we had an early sampling of what is coming on the third round of the Slot.it 70’s Prototypes Series, the club’s monitor showed 47% relative humidity and temperatures hovering the low 90s.
We had a small but well balanced field in this round, 3 Alfa Romeos and 3 Ferraris. Ary, Brett and Jim raced for tem Alfa; Kevin, Roy and Russell were on team Ferrari. Shawn did not race but was present helping as a corner marshal (thumbs up!).
Race highlights
Heat #1: Jim completed the most laps, 68. Russell, competing for the first time in this series, finished 64 laps. Brett completed 58 laps.
We experienced a small glitch in the timing system towards the end of the heat. The “bug”, which doubled the lap counts of all lanes, was caused by starting a track call while a previous track call was still active.
Heat #2: Two minutes into the heat Kevin’s Ferrari had a lead wire problem, a shame since he had just clocked the fastest lap at 3.969 seconds; unable to re-join the heat, he only completed 24 laps. Russell completed 66 laps behind Jim’s 71.
Heat #3: Roy turned the fastest lap of the heat at 4.020 seconds but finished one lap behind Kevin’s 71. Russell completed 66 laps.
Heat #4: Very clean heat. Ary completed 74 laps and set the fastest lap at 3.836 seconds. Kevin’s finished 73 followed by Roy’s 71.
Heat #5: Brett, still new to slot cars, completed 58 laps. Roy stayed one lap behind Ary almost the entire heat but a de-slot in the closing seconds placed him an extra lap behind Ary’s 73.
Heat #6: Both Jim and Brett had a few more deslots than they would have liked. Brett completed 60 laps, Jim 63. Ary had a clean run, finishing 74 laps and setting the fastest lap of the race at 3.814 seconds.
