Round 4 of the Trans Am series had only six cars as many of the drivers were off having fun away from the track, if that’s possible. Anyone looking for Marty to back off, almost go their wish, as the #46 SCA Camaro was fast but not the fastest car on the track.
The first heat went to Marty in the SCA Camaro with 68 laps. Shawn, in the #33 Camaro, was second with 65 laps and David, in the #48 Camaro, was third with 57. Marty set the fast lap of the race, so far, with a 4.253.
Brett joined Marty and Shawn for the second heat. Brett was still working hard on his car even as he was sitting it down on the track to start the race. As hard as he worked to make his #3 Camaro competitive it still needed a little more work. Marty and Shawn had a good battle with Marty finishing with 68 laps to Shawn’s 67. Brett ended up running 28 laps as he spent time in the heat working on his car. The fast lap was still Marty’s 4.253.
Mark and his #71 Challenger joined Shawn and Brett in this heat. Mark’s pre-race warm up looked good and everyone hoped he would have a good run. The race ended up being dominated by Shawn with 68 laps and a total for his three heats of 200. Mark finished second with 50 laps and Brett was a very respectable third with 47 laps.
The fourth heat had Stephen join Brett and Mark. Stephen was not running the Cougar he had run in the previous rounds of the series. He had borrowed the #8 Camaro of Max Muehlegger that was prepared Marty. Stephen had a great run and managed to run 67 laps while Mark ran 49 and Brett, still struggling with his car, ran 24.
The fifth heat had Stephen running with Mark and David. Stephen had another great run with a total of 67 laps to David’s 59 and Mark’s 51. Stephen was getting the feel of the new Camaro and was running some very fast lap times. He was now only 67 laps away from beating Shawn. Could he pull that off in the final heat?
The final heat would be big as both Stephen and Marty were not only running to beat the 200 lap total of Shawn, they were running for the top spot on the podium. The racing was very good as there were very few de-slots and great action on the race track. At the end of the five minute heat Marty was on top with 68 laps to Stephen’s 67 and David’s 59. The big deal here is the all-out speed of Stephen in this round. He managed to not only set fast lap of the heat but also for the race. Marty may have won but the others are getting closer.
The final results had Marty in 1st, Stephen in 2nd, Shawn in 3rd, David in 4th with a great run, Mark in 5th and Brett in 6th. As mentioned earlier, the fast lap of the race was clocked by Stephen with a 4.229.
With two rounds to go it looks like it will be hard to beat Marty’s points total but the race for second is very much up in the air. The B Group race is up in the air as well with David putting in a great run that will put him near the top of the B Group leader board.
The next round should be fun to run and watch! See you all on September 6th!
