The Club Travels to Waxahachie to Race ››› Update: Event moved to Garland, TX

Richard Petty said “There is no doubt about precisely when folks began racing each other in automobiles.  It was the day they built the second automobile”.  There is something about competition, something about measuring yourself against someone else.  That is the reason we race, to test ourselves and our cars.  Members of the Austin Slot Car Club that attended the 24 Hours of Tacoma learned firsthand what it was like to test themselves against others.  For those that went the seed of racing against others outside the club was planted.  This has lead us to the race on June 7th with the club from Tyler and other racers from around the Dallas area.  There will be two separate 1/24 scale races taking place – a BRM race and a Scaleauto race.

Eight members of the club will be making the trip to Waxahachie to run in both the BRM and Scaleauto races on All Scale Raceway’s 155’ Blue King eight lane routed track.  This is the first time the club has taken this many members to an event away from our home track.  Of the eight going on this trip three of them have raced on a Blue King track previously.  For those that have not raced on a longer track like a Blue King theya are in for a real treat.  There is something great about running on a track where you can hold your controller trigger down for more than just a second or two.

Members from the club have spent the past weeks preparing their cars for these races and using their time to learn about the bigger 1/24 scale BRM and Scaleauto cars. Club members that have been in the club for four year or more remember the days when we raced BRM cars every year but since that time BRM have produced a new anglewinder chassis that means anyone familiar with the older in-line chassis are going to have to re-learn everything.  We will also be running foam tires for the first time.

The Scaleauto race is the most interesting one as only one club member actually owned one and it was not a good experience and was put back in its box soon after it was run four years ago.  We have all worked hard to get an understanding of these cars and get them tuned to be as competitive as we can make them.  We have worked together sharing ideas and tips with the goal of getting everyone the best possible car we can.

We are now only two weeks away from the race and club members are spending any extra time they have working on their cars finishing up their final tweaks, they hope.

Good luck to everyone headed up to Waxahachie.

  1. The race in Garland was a lot of fun. I only got about 5 hours sleep the night before. I guess I shouldn’t party so much! (not) It would be so nice to have a track like that one. It would also be nice to have A/C. Nice guys at the track. Very helpful. Tune up tips, Pizza lunch and a good time had by all. It was interesting that our guys finished very close to the way we do on our track. The A class guys followed by the B class guys in much the same order….. Very interesting Maybe it isn’t my car it is the old man driving! Hope to see lots of pics.
