Group 5 Race #4 Results
The fourth Group 5 race was one for the record books. There were six racers present with everyone feeling like they were finally getting the handle of their cars. All the racers were spending some time on the track before the race finishing up their final tweaks. It was looking like there was going to be some very close racing in the six heats.
The first heat was an example of how close the racing looked like it was going to be with Stephen, David and Mark all running very close to each other. Then came the second heat where any idea of this being a close race went right out the window. Ary and his metal chassis and NSR Super Grip tire equipped Scaleauto BMW M1 was in a class by itself. While most of the racers were running around the 70 lap mark Ary’s lap totals for the three races was 75, 77 and 78 with a fast lap in his final heat of 3.793! As a result we are now going to be running three classes of racing – Group B, Group A and Ary.
Marty and his previously fast Ford Capri was no match for the BMW M1. The best the Capri could do was 72.85 laps – not even close to Ary.
Other than Ary’s epic race there was some other great racing taking place between the Group B racers. The sixth and last heat was great to watch. Rich and David started the heat tied for fourth overall and both racers ended up running on the same lap for most of the heat with the battle going back and forth as one would de-slot and hand the lead to the other then that leader would de-slot and the lead swapped again. The race ended with the two racers within four feet of each other. What a great race. Those watching definitely got their money’s worth.
The races ended with Ary in first place and taking the fast lap, Marty way behind in second and Stephen in third. The Group B racers were lead by David with Rich only four feet behind and Mark not that far behind both of those two.
The challenge for everyone is now to see if anyone can get next to Ary’s BMW. We will see in a couple of weeks if anyone has made any progress.
