The brass pinion can be sourced here in the states. The part number is SC-1195.
turboman93ParticipantIn response to Q1, if it didn’t come on the chassis out of the box, it’s not allowed. The carbon fiber and full metal chassis have a set of parts that are standard. Those are what’s allowed.
In response to Q2, Mark, I tested all tires that were available to us included the Paul Gage tires. They didn’t perform as well as the MJK thus they were removed from contention.
All tires appear to be in Austrailia so allow for 2 weeks shipping. Tires can also be sourced from this eBay seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ScaleAuto-1-24-Sports-GT-Race-tyres-MJK-4118/392035360419?hash=item5b4720dea3:g:5fIAAOSwL2NakLto
I have already purchased 5 pair from him and all but 2 pair have arrived as of the writing of this post. I’ve also got tires coming from Armchair and got an email yesterday that MJK is making the tires this week and Armchair will be shipping to me next week. I had ordered 5 pair and 4 pair are already spoken and paid for.
As the series manager, I’ve tried to make the series as even as possible and getting the resources necessary for racers prior to the race.
turboman93ParticipantIs the Scaleauto discussion something we can postpone until the May meeting as that’s my series and I’ll not be there to participate?
turboman93ParticipantI’m fine with letting the long can anglewinders run. Honestly, the benefit of the anglewinder is to get the long can in a sidewinder configuration. It also allows for the magnet affect of the motor to help traction but is nullified on the rally track as it’s copper tape and not magnabraid. They will have oodles of torque out of the hole but might be a serious handful to control without lowering the track power. There is a point where lowering it doesn’t give the motor enough power to fully run and motor variances now come more into play.
I’ve already got a car that came with a sidewinder configuration so I’m just making my thoughts known for the newer racers.
turboman93ParticipantRandy,
That’s going to be Marty’s call as the series manager, but as the rules are written now, you can NOT use an anglewinder pod with long can motor.
turboman93ParticipantSo I got into the car late last night. The carbon fiber mounting plate is thicker than the metal plate on the older cars, so it has less float. I’m not sure what that’s going to mean on the track right now so I’m not suggesting it’s either good or bad. I spent a good amount of time trying to straighten the body on the chassis as the Z4 I got was crooked and offset. Everything else looks to be the same so I’ll get to the track and true the stock tires and see how it runs.
turboman93ParticipantWill do, Randy. That’s what I’m working on now.
turboman93ParticipantMoving the series to Q4 will only postpone the issue and cause havoc in the Q1 series next year. I don’t see how this is a solution to the residue problem.
I’ve ordered some other tires that I want to test with and I’ll make the final decision once I’ve had time on all tire options.
turboman93ParticipantRussell,
All Scaleauto GT cars are eligible. I was just pointing out the ones with the new GT3 chassis. You can use the older chassis.
turboman93ParticipantRussell,
That’s a lot to digest and should be discussed in a different forum than this post. Let Marty, Steve, Mark and I discuss and we’ll come up with ideas and share with the group.
turboman93ParticipantI want to make a clarification on the May 5th date. Rudy came to Marty and I and explained the free comic book day being May 5th and suggested we change dates. I took that to mean we should. That being said, if we as a club, decide that we’re fine parking in the other lot and having our race on May 5th, we can do that as well.
Russell is the series manager and is who will ultimately decide what we do. As of now, the calendar is unchanged.
turboman93ParticipantAdd to that 2 Porsches along with a Porsche white kit with the SC-8003 GT3 chassis.
I’m also considering using the foam tires and looking for input. Using foams will mean that we have to clean the track of the residue of foam tire cleaner. This will make the chassis for the Scaleauto more even and provide better grip. The downside is the regular rubber tire performance will suffer until we build the grip on the track again with rubber.
I’ve been putting thought into this since Saturday and I agree with Marty that it will make the series much more enjoyable for everyone. Given the size of the Scaleauto on our track, the grip will keep the cars from bumping into each other and creating mayhem along with destruction. The reduced grip moving forward on the 1/32 cars will make it challenging but it allows for more lenient racing as the cars are smaller and have more spacing between them.
Please provide your thoughts here, so we can make a decision on tires by the May club meeting on May 12th.
turboman93Participant132slotcar.us has 2 BMW Z4s and 2 Dodge Vipers with the newer chassis. If you are looking at other sites, make sure the part number on the car ends with “R”. That seems to be the designation of the SC-8003 GT3 chassis.
turboman93ParticipantRussell,
First off, there should have been no changes to the calendar as I said we would discuss and finalize at the April meeting. I’m not happy with this change being made prematurely.
Rudy told us about that date and suggested we not hold a race that day. That’s why we’re having this discussion.
turboman93ParticipantWhat about my Toyotas?
