      The story of “What If’s”

This Saturday’s upcoming Slot It 60’s Classic race will answer a lot of “What If’s” that have been on my mind.  For starters……

What if the Chaparral 2E and the GT 40 raced against each other back in the 60’s.  Who would have won?  Would it have been a close race?  With the Chaparral being built for the unlimited world of CanAm and the GT40 being built to the prototype class for world sports car championships it was not meant to be.  It would have been great to see Phil Hill in the 2E battling Ken Miles in the GT40 in what would surely have been a great race.

What if we hold a 60’s Classic race and no one shows up with a Chaparral 2E?  Will the races be as much fun without a diverse line up of cars?  Will Russell show up with a GT 40 painted solid white with Chaparral wheel inserts?  Should the Chaparral’s be allowed to run without their high rear wing to help balance the performance between the two cars as long as the weights are equivalent?

What if 3.9 second laps are the norm?  Will anyone running 4.0’s have the slightest look in on a podium spot?  Will consistent 4.0 laps win out over a few fast 3.9 and 3.8 laps mixed with some de-slots?

What if a new club member took a podium spot?  With some fast new members it is no longer results as usual.  Everyone in the club, thanks to everyone being so open about their set ups, is running very close to each other and there is a real possibility we could see some new names at the top of the leader board.

We will have all the questions answered Saturday afternoon as the start to the 2012 race season begins.  What fun it will be.  Good luck to everyone.
