Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica was seriously injured in a rally crash today. He has right leg and hand and internal injuries. His right hand is apparently in bad shape and he is undergoing surgery now. Reserve driver Bruno Senna may replace him.

Absolutely terrible news. I wish him the best. I can still remember watching his crash at the 2007 Canadian GP. It would be sad to lose him in F1 to something like this. Racing is not all about F1. I remember when Sandro Nannini lost his arm in a helicopter accident and was able to come back and have a great career in touring cars.

Guarded good news about Kubica; they brought him out of his induced coma and he talked to his father and was able to move his fingers. It’s still too early to tell how much functionality he will have; he will probably be out all year.
His codriver said they hit a section of armco, pushing it outwards. There was a gap to the next section of guardrail and they went straight into it. It pierced the engine compartment, all the way through the cockpit and out the hatchback. They were lucky as it was.

Holy crap! He is lucky the armco didn’t go straight through him.
