We’ve talked informally about hosting a Father’s Day (June 19, 2011) race this year as a possible membership drive. I would like to make it formal at this point, and propose that we organize and host a Box-Stock race for that day.

The purpose of this race will be less about us competing against each other, and more about drawing in new folks to race to whom we can also market membership in the club.

In addition to the race, I would like to consider setting up a session or two on the basics of racing, tuning, and perhaps some more advanced topics, such as gearing, tire choice, etc… A showcase of our different cars, custom liveries, and other aspects of the hobby might also hold some appeal to folks.

Here’s a few bullets on what I’m thinking:
      – 12yrs and older for the kids.
      – 8.5v to 9v track voltage.
      – Probably a GT class, but we might want to consider NASCAR, or even any car class. Just run-what-you-got. (If we get enough turnout we might need to segregate the cars into some classes just to keep things fair.)

We’ll need to get working on a the plan for the day, a marketing plan, marketing assets, perhaps a web form for sign-up (so we can get some handle on numbers of potential racers), fee structure, etc…

Marty has offered to host planning meetings at one of his shops, so we can be free of distractions and have basic meeting stuff available to us. Given our current competition schedule, I think we may need to schedule the meetings on Sundays. (If we can establish the structure of the day and each take a few “to-dos” it shouldn’t take more than than two or three meetings to get everything planned and wheels in motion.)

Please feel free to share your feedback, ideas, “throw your hat in the ring”, etc…

I’ll have couple of proposed kick-off dates soon.

Any news about the date for the meeting?
