If you are an editor of the club’s google calendar please follow the guidelines for entries set forth below. This convention should serve the club well in terms of being search engine friendly and being friendly to the human reader. Its not complicated, but it does require an ounce of diligence. Most of this is really just common sense.
Please make calendar entries in the following format:
Title: Human readable, no abbreviations. Most important words first. Include the race number in the series if applicable so the reader has some context.
Where: Always include a location. (This is usually Kings Hobby Shop, which comes up in the selection list as soon as you type Kings Hobby.)
Description: Follow a format that has the relevant segments of an event such as Practice, Technical Inspection, and the Race. Use standard time notation and include a description of the event. I have been using a clip or shortened version of the event as it is described on the club web site, depending on how it was written by the series manager.
Avoid abbreviations in both the Title and Description. An abbreviation may make perfect sense to you, but it may not make sense to someone else, and it may not make sense to a search engine crawler. If you use a hyphen. colon or other punctuation, include white space on either side. If you reference a forum or other page on the site, include a link. Never, ever reference something that doesn’t exist on the site. In short: A few extra key-strokes go a long way and will pay real dividends in both usability and search-ability.
Here is an example of an entry that follows the conventions described above:
