Man, there is a LOT going on in these two series. Some of it great, and some not so…
For example:
- Ruebens Barrichello, one of my favorite F1 drivers, is driving a DP in this weekend’s Brickyard Grand Prix.
- Starworks, one of my favorite teams, and tied for the points lead in the DP class of the Grand-Am series, is switching to BMW power for the rest of the season! Ballsy move.
- Over in ALMS Starworks is planning on campaigning a PC car for the balance of the season, in preparation for the new USCR series next year. (So far, the PC class spec remains unchanged.) Smart move.
- The ALMS PC class will go forward into the new series unchanged. This is a bummer, unless they plan to tweak the GT classes to create a little more performance separation between the classes. IMHO, something is just wrong with a class setup when a GT car outperforms a prototype car in the corners and is excruciatingly close in straight line performance. Watching the two class leaders of GT and PC at the Lime Rock race get in each other’s way while fighting their own class battles was frustrating.
- Sadly, Rebellion Racing, another team I follow, has pulled out of the rest of the ALMS season, with the one exception of the Petite Le Mans. I was hoping ot see them run at COTA in September, and I think I still will, as they say they plan to run the balance of the WEC calendar with one car. But it does mean that the comptetition in the P1 class in ALMS will be lackluster, at best. I guess Dyson and Pickett/Muscle Milk get to run what amounts to testing for the rest of the year, and get paid for it in the end.
Phew!!
