This past Saturday’s El Piloto race had some great racing with six club members racing it out for the top spot in the second race of the second season. This race saw all the BRM Megane’s equipped with new rear tires flown in all the way from Lancashire England and professionally installed by Ary Race Werks With all the cars having new rubber It would be interesting to see what affect if any effect it would have on the way the cars would perform.
Since there was no live broadcast of the race there is no way for me to go back and review each heat so this report will be from memory and will be shorter than the others as a result.
Everyone found the cars slightly harder to control as they experienced oversteer under acceleration and were slightly tail happy under braking.
The last heat was highlighted by the fight between Steve and Roy. The battle was tight until Steve had a few bobbles and allowed Roy to put a lap on him. Roy was not only fighting Steve he was fighting Jim who had already finished with 197.73 laps. At the end Roy ran out of time and finished .57 of a lap behind him.
Crash of the race belonged to Roy who was unfortunately pushed off the track and directly into the tree on the back straight.
The final results had Shawn taking the win with a total of 204.57 laps to Marty’s 203.97 and Russell’s 200.28. Jim was fourth with a total of 197.73 laps just beating Roy with 197.16 laps and Steve not far off the behind with a total of 194.83. Fast lap of 4.230 was run by Marty on the next to last heat in the blue lane.
