El Piloto Series
Description: The club will purchase one slot car for each available lane. Each car will be tuned-up by the same mechanic for the duration of the series, this person will not be allowed to race. Since there are 3 lanes on our club track, we would have 3 cars; each car would be assigned to a specific lane. Drivers would use their own controllers in each heat but cars would not change lanes (everybody would race the same model in each lane). The series constitute of 10 Thursday night races to be scheduled, the best 8 results will count towards a drivers total.Race Fees: $40 for club member and $80 for a non-member, fees are for the entire series and should be paid in advance. A minimum of 6 racers is required.Car Selection & Tune-up: The car selection and non-magnetic tune-up will be chosen by the series mechanic (any better work for this position?).Prizes: Box plaques for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place series finishers. Slot cars used in the series may be auctioned or given as prizes at the end of the series.Budget: The budget for cars, tune-up & box plaques is limited to the amount collected during signup($240 minimum), any money left over after expenses goes to the club.Attachments:

Let me know if you are interested in this series.

My Thursday availability is less than spotty. I wouldn’t pay for a series that I might only get 1 or 2 races in. I’m out due to my business travel.

I have just made a change to the description. The budget has been removed from under “Car Selection & Tune-up”, now there is a separate description for “Budget”.

I’m yet to hear anything about this series … what’s up?

Sorry… yeah, I’m interested. But lets figure out a schedule and how to integrate it with the BRM class. (That series completely slipped my mind Saturday.)
Which cars were you thinking of using?

I’m guessing that it will take $25~40 for box plates. With approximately $200 for cars & tune-up I would probably go with Slot.it. When you add $50 per car, guide, tires & pinion/gear — it will be tight, some upgrades may not make the cut.
Regardless of the brand, I will buy GT cars, this way we can end the series before the GT unlimited and the club members can buy the models we used.
There are 26 Thursdays from April to September; assuming we can get this going in April (maybe a week earlier), the series would be over before GT started.
I’m not going to worry about schedule if there is no interested in the class. That said, we could race it every other Thursday, the off-Thursday can be used for BRM.

Ary,
Since I’m not running the BRM 1/24th class, count me in for the El Piloto series. I have set aside the $40. I really don’t care about trophys, but whatever the club wants to do.

Cars are coming along and hopefully will be ready for a test drive by next Thursday, March 10th. I will also try to have the series schedule ready by the 10th.
All participants that have not yet paid their fees ($40) need to do so. Also, please vote on the poll, the deadline will be the first series race.
I’m taking pictures of everything that had to be done to the car, I will write some sort of a guide at the end. Here is a preview:

Those are looking good Ary!
I’ll second the encouragement for everyone to vote in the poll. 3 votes doesn’t quite cut it in the statistical realm folks. Click away!!!

Ary,
Did you read the article on airbrushing that Russell was talking about? Those look great!
Do the interiors come painted or will you be painting those as well. If you need any help I would be up for doing those.
Are you installing lights in them?

Marty, the interiors come painted — thankfully. All the models are pretty much done, I still have to apply all the decals and clear — which reminds me that I should have not installed the windows, dammit. No lights, the budget is tight, there are no deep guides either.
I was thinking about sending the armatures to get balanced but the company that does that service is yet to tell me if they can do it or not. I have just started breaking-in all the motors, they will work just fine without balancing.
All tires have been trued, sized and I have applied nail polish to the fronts. Chassis have been baked, pods & pod beds have been sanded, front axle height has also been set. I still need to figure out the rpm at the wheel & COG of all cars.
Here are the latest pics:

Absolutely fantastic! I can’t wait to drive one.
I will throw in the wood guides as I think they make a big difference in the drivability of the cars.
