El Piloto Crashes and a Race

This past weekend El Piloto was resembled a real spec series touring car event with crashes, bumping, timing issues, stoppages due to big mechanical issues and some upset drivers.  I don’t think you could make the racing more realistic than this.

Even with all the “realism” everyone had a great time. Everyone except for the one that has to rebuild all those Renault Meganes.

There was a good turnout for the races with six racers competing.  This round had Brandon joining us along with new racer Steve.  The racing regulars were all in attendance including Brian who was actually at Home Depot but managed to be in two places at once so he could race.

There were numerous stoppages due to the large number of crashes and de-slots.  This caused some timing issues and the final placing’s were not posted until recently.

As you can see by the numbers Ary had a strong race but Shawn, who has been on fire recently, was not far behind.  Shawn also managed to pick up the fastest lap and the one point that goes with it.  Marty finished third while Russell was close behind in fourth.  Fifth spot was taken by one of the clubs new members Steve while Brandon, another new club member, finished a strong sixth in his first race.

Now that the races are done we hand the cars back to Ary and off he goes to put them back together again for next month’s race.  Not an easy task after these races.  Good luck Ary and thanks for all the help in making this series a success.

In the future I believe we should have the El Piloto cars at the track every Saturday the club meets so people can have some time to run them and learn how they are to drive.  Maybe with the additional practice we can have a race where all the parts that were on the cars at the start are still on them at the end.

Follow up to the story – Rumor has it that ARW (Ary Race Werks) has put extensive time and effort into completely rebuilding each of the El Piloto cars.  All the cars had their chassis baked and every part put back on with the care and expertise that has made ARW so famous.  I can’t wait to race them on the 13th of October!
