Thanks Shawn! I followed the tuning advice you gave to John last Sat about keeping the front tires close to the track and hence keeping the CG of the rear relatively ‘down’ to prevent rolls & fishtails. By tuning my guide height and “flying” height I got back more consistent 3.8s that seemed to grow to 3.9s as rear tire wear increased – and yet I am still Not porpoising out in the green hairpin.
      Again – Thanks!

All we need is two people to safely remove the cover panels. As per Marty’s demonstration earlier this year, please do not man-handle the locks; just like a car and woman some gentle turns will work much better than too much force. Carefully test which key opens the top locks (the dog tag notes may be backwards!) Only one key is needed for the top. The other key is for the computer door and the driver’s station.
** This is an excellent opportunity for *more* racers to become comfortable in setting up the Rally track. Thurs 5/24 I will try and leave work early enough to be there by 6:30p. But do not wait for me – call me in-route (512-468-1376) if you experience any problems and I will talk you through it. On Saturday 5/26 I will open the track between 12-1p until at least 4pm.
The extension cord is under the Ark, fish it out with a grabber or a broom, and plug into the power strip below Russ’ pit area. Use a grabber to get down the Swifters and dust the track Gently so the tape is not pulled up. Press any lifing tape down carefully, smoothing it in One direction (otherwise you will wrinkle and may rip it). Time and heat may have allowed some of the tape to lose adhesion. If any parts are significantly lifted or ripped please do Not use the rack-we will notify Marty so he can repair ASAP.
Carefully pull out the power supply out just enough to reach the voltage control knob.
Carefully set the computer on a chair next to the Ark. Be careful of the cord for the speakers so you don’t break the plug. Carefully make sure the power plug is in all the way and make sure the cords are Not in a Spaghetti mess. The computer may just be “sleeping” and should Not need to be powered On or reset.
However it has been a while since the cord was plugged in so its battery may be discharged. If so – give it 10 minutes to get the battery to a decent level then hard start the computer with the power switch. (we should start plugging in the cord every Thurs or Sat to keep the PC charged.)
Click on the SC Timer software if it is not already running (it should be). Re-set for a new 40-lap heat. During practice pause SC Timer if you pull off before 40; otherwise start a new heat between each practice round.

Marty, there should never be a problem with any club member wanting to understand the factual logic behind any spec or rule.  My question is a rational and reasonable attempt to understand what appears to my ignorant eyes as unobvious, (please read Q2 before you pop).
Two months ago there were claims of better performance with the 8003 – ‘the new chassis far out performed the old one’ …’ the adjustable front axle helps keep the rear tires flat’ … [post 11993, March 12].
Q1:  Is the 8003 orders-of-magnitude different (e.g. aluminum chassis {with carbon parts}, lightweight axle supports with CNC motor support) than the 8000, so that upgrading a 8000 with only the 8003CF Kit would make a Frankenstein that is still Not fully equal to the OEM 8003?
You obviously have done the research and have significantly more knowledge than the rest of us on these chassis, so I am simply trying to help *all of us to be enlightened.
Q2:  ** Is your intent to keep both chassis at OEM-spec so that our race results are an experiment to determine what configuration is best (e.g. for future races at Tom’s new track?)

What are the technical advantages for upgrading a SC-8000 with the CF parts ($75) – what are the obvious benefits over the stock SC-8003 chassis (e.g. a new $170-180 car)?

Notes on the CG Guide Adapters: The ‘Standard’ size fits the BMW and Ford-GT. The large size can fit if sanded down. I recommend sanding down the adapter, not enlarging the chassis hole, (b/c a replacement adapter is easier to get than a new chassis). Reference Ary’s video.
Warning: It does Not take very much sanding to make the large adapter fit. Be sure it slides in easy, without warping from forcing it.  Also: These are 3D printed items and the track facing part of the adapter has a rough finish that needs careful sanding to smooth it.

Removing Rear Magnet: The magnet behind the motor is held in with a U-shaped clip. Try and pry it out with a small flat-blade screwdriver. If it sticks, you can very very very carefully pop out it out from the bottom of the chassis by placing the screwdriver on one side of the exposed part of the magnet and popping it with your palm. Carefully!

Cool – did not see any notes on tests of PG tires -5 minutes ago Randy informed me you did a controlled test recently with him and John.
RE the tuning parts – I just wanted to confirm that the carbon fibre parts were allowed since I am not aware of any “chassis tuning parts” that are available.
Thanks for the EBAY listing! Sounds fun 🙂

Q1. Since it appears the carbon-fibre chassis parts Are allowed – what does this spec actually mean? “No ScaleAuto chassis tuning parts are allowed” Specifically What Parts are not allowed?
Q2. Is there a NorthAmerican source for the MK rear tires? Most sources seem to be Australian mate. Are we sure there are no Paul Gage XPG series urethane tires that will fit?
Q3. So using wire clips or glue instead of the default, industry standard method of Soldering lead wires may give someone an unfair advantage? ROTFL

                          ANOTHER ‘TIRE’ SERIES
The T/S stock tires wear quickly. I am on my 3rd set. When new and minimally trued (some tread barely visible) the larger diameter resulted in a “taller” (aka. higher) gear ratio and hence faster times (3.8 regular, occasional 3.7s) from the longer roll-out.

Now, my chassis is hugging the track, obvious by the scruff marks on the motor-can. Handling is great b/c of the higher magnetic-downforce (and lower CG), but I can barely creep into the upper 3.8s 🙁
Looks like for this weekend I need to true up some new shoes!

                            NSR RALLY PRACTICE DATES
                            May 24, 26
                            June 6, 30
                            July 7, 12
                            Race #1 = July 14

Practice dates for mid-Jul, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec are TBD. Generally the weekend before the next Rally race will be a practice, after the quarter race (e.g. ScaleAuto then Carrera).

                            — The rally track will be opened and practice software started. This will be either on “dark” non-racing weekends, or after another race.
                            — When rally practice is scheduled for a Saturday, the immediately preceding Thurs can also be used as a practice night. Naturally we will have to work with Rudy to clear the top of the Ark.
                            — Don’t break the keys for the top, and if a lock gets loose try and tighten its lock-nut.
The ‘gold’ key is for the timing PC cabinet. There are two silver keys-one opens the top locks the other opens the direction switch door, (they may be labeled backwards on the dog-tag).

                                RULES
As of the 4/14 club meeting the rules have been finalized. NSR motors are required, but both short and long cans are allowed, recommended RPM is between 21k to 30k, with high torque (180 to 350gm-cm). Voltage regulation will be key to you picking the right motor and gear combination.
NSR tires are mandatory, be careful of splitting when gluing tires.
If you want to run the OEM chassis, pod, motor – that is fine – use the parts that you can Find, Afford and that work well for you. This is still an experimental series to help flesh out what possible combinations perform well. Obviously speed is important but as we saw in 2017 control and handling are more important. A certain amount of tire drift is desired for the tight corners; high torque motors ran at low RPM can be a good combination. Realize that max torque actually occurs at low voltage levels; it drops off as voltage and RPMs increase.
David, Shawn, Stephen and Marty all produced some fantastic speeds in last years final races so we will be interested to see what architectures they use.

                                PRACTICE
I will write up instructions on how to open and setup the Rally track for practice. Official practice dates are in the Google Calendar – I will summarize them in the forum in a new post.

Tire Gluing – altho many are doing it, some of the tires will split at the seam; the tightness of the tires does not really require gluing.

NSR RALLY (Mark): Members present agreed to allow any size or orientation NSR motor (spec brand). Recommended to keep the RPM below 25k (as normal). Other rules are already posted and firm.
Rally Practice: No limits- if you can open the Ark and start the PC you can practice. Specific dates will be posted on the forum, typically ‘dark’ Saturdays and the Thurs before. In June the Ark will be opened after normal races on Saturday afternoons. Smoke tests of the rally cars can be ran on the regular track when ever you wish (pay attention to your voltage).

CARERRA GT SERIES (Ary): Rules are updated on the website. Motors can be replaced – up to 25k-rpm shortcan inline. Rear axle assembly and wheels can be replaced by Slot.It components; Hubless wheels are mandatory or they will not fit in wheel-wells. NSR and BRM 11m-wdt tires are recommended. Guide can be replaced with Slot.It or ScaleAuto; requires B-Nova Carerra adapter rings. Bushings must be replaced with solid Oil-lite style brass bushings (no ball bearing, no swivel, no plastic)

PFLUGERVILLE/OUTLAW RACEWAY (Mark): Tom is finishing the upstairs; predicts two months before the tracks can be installed; he will contact us when he needs help.

LANDSCAPING (Marty): Marty will soon post suggested dates for the main/road track. Rally track landscaping dates will be discussed in future.

SOCIAL EVENT (Alex): A day at a park (Emma Long) with BBQ and drinks was suggested; alternative having a similar event at a nearby bar or restaurant. Lots of discussion was had about going go-carting at DriveWay Austin or COTA (with a BBQ tail-gate). Some suggested dates need to be posted in the forum.
