Oh! I thought you were running a Radical, or is that Austin’s entry?

(Leroy Grumman)What is the ruling on the Scalextric Pro Performance kits?
Available in Audi R8 and Aston Martin DB9 variants.
Personally, I think they can be allowed, as they seem to be nothing more than a white-kit with a parts bin. Might want to spec the wheels so they are scale…

(Leroy Grumman)Unless you are
a) up for a huge challenge with little chance for reward or
b) are just a glutton for punishmentskip the SCX brand cars. I have tried to prep two of these (A Volvo and a BMW) for touring car proxies and found that the level of changes required to the body and chassis are simply too great. At a minimum you are looking at replacing the entire guide post assembly, modifying the motor pod to fit a more traditional motor, and probably modifying the interior to clear a new motor (which starts to bump up against the rules).
As Ary pointed out most of their cars are very narrow, although some would argue they are actually closer to scale than other brands. The one exception is their DTM series of cars, which are also wider in 1:1 scale. (Think EU version of NASCAR with left and right turns.)

(Leroy Grumman)The scale does seem a bit off. I wonder if the pics of the Ferrari have been squeezed, though, as the one shot of the McLaren looks OK.

(Leroy Grumman)Marty’s instructions are to go to the back of the store by the bathrooms and go down the hallway to the meeting room. My office is the corner office next to the bathrooms.

(Leroy Grumman)Beautiful car and cool that it can be driven the street, but parking in the handicapped spot at the convenience store? Bad form.

(Leroy Grumman)Because of ACL and the absence of two of our senior members we will be moving the date of the meeting to Oct 27 at 1:00 PM. We will be meeting at Marty’s offices at Bicycle Sport Shop at 517 S. Lamar. The racing scheduled for Oct 13 will remain on that day. (I did move the time of the Classic GT back to our regular start time of 2:00 PM due to the meeting moving to the 27th.)

(Leroy Grumman)Thanks Marty, We have threatened to use your meeting room a few times. It is time we made good on that. 😉 Now on to the prework and discussion of the agenda items.
I’m going to start three new threads to keep the discussion from getting jumbled up.
- Discuss building a new rally track that can be suspended above the existing track and lowered for rally racing series.
- Review existing rules and make any necessary or agreed changes.
- Discuss club race series for 2013.

(Leroy Grumman)The first four items are check-box items and shouldn’t take more than 5 or 10 minutes combined.
We can start discussion threads on each of the major topics so we have a head start.

(Leroy Grumman)That is a standing date… the second Saturday of every month is earmarked for club business. The Oct meeting is flagged as our annual meeting, as the timing is good for planning the upcoming year. Every now and then the repeating schedule of a series will collide with the meeting. This is only an issue when races bump into the annual meeting because of the time it requires. We like maximimum participation in the annual meeting, and therefore, can be flexible on the date to ensure that.
Regarding membership form and check… Shawn will recieve the form and Marty the check. (Although you can give both to either one, or myself, and we’ll make sure it gets to the right hands.)

(Leroy Grumman)I agree that it is time to update the home page. I can have wire frames for the design change that I’m thinking about for the next meeting. There a few technical issues that need to be addressed along with the updated layout that will take some time.
That being said, we need to maintain the “news” feature, as it gives us fresh content more frequently than a few calls to action for prospective or new members. Stale content will reduce our search ranking on Google and Bing, making it less likely that people will find the site. We continue to win the search for the terms Austin slot car, and I want to keep winning.
Other features I want to explore include migrating to an embedded Google Calendar, adding an auto sports and slot car news feed tailored to our interests, a photo gallery, embedding a You Tube channel, and google ads as a potential source of revenue.
We can discuss and prioritize these and any other ideas folks have at the next meeting.
I also have one other provocative idea that needs a bit more thought before I share it.
