What a great choice.  I think you will do well with that car.

Randy – Great question.  The main reason was to limit the number of differences between the cars so people would not have to spend more money or more time going to the track to try out different options to find the best set up.  It’s better in these proxy races if the parts can be kept as similar as possible between all the runners.  I thought everyone would have a short can they could use as those are the same motors we use for just about every other series we run.

The last Group 5 race had rules that were much more open and allowed racers many options to find the fastest car – just like the real Group 5 rules.

Does anyone own a Fly 250LM and a Fly 250 GTO?  I would like to get the wheelbase measurement for both cars.  Let me know if anyone has either or both of these cars.  Thanks

            Mark,

The NSR catalog shows all liveried GT cars available in angle winder or side winder.  The issue is more with what the retailers have in stock.  If you like a specific livery on a car don’t give up hope of finding it in a side winder as some of the more popular retailers.

              Randy,

All of these cars are available in both versions and some are also available with an inline configuration.  You can tell by the part number of the car.  Part numbers that end in AW are angle winder, part numbers that end in SW are side winder and part numbers that end in IL are inline.  The preferred set up is Side Winder or Inline.  The Angle Winder configuration has not been as successful.

There is also the Aston Martin Vantage listed as an ASV.

The stock tires have plenty of clearance even after truing.  NSR’s SuperGrip tires have always worked well on our track and in some quick testing of my car I don’t see any reason to spec anything other than the stock tires.

Brian – I like the club vs club talk but I have to wonder if everyone at a club would give 100% when racing someone else’s car if its beating the home town cars?  Hell, I wonder if some of our current racers try as hard with someone else’s car as they do to their own.  If you are in front what is the impetus to drive someone else’s car quicker than your own?

All – Another series I was thinking we could run in the first half of the year in a proxy style race would be a NSR GT3 series.  We have run this series before and most of us have at least one of these cars as well as the spares we need for our track.  The cars are easy to set up without needing tons of replacement parts and are fun to run.

NSR currently produces the following cars for the GT3 category:  Audi R8’s, Porsche 997, Mercedes AMG, BMW Z4, Aston Martin ASV, Corvette C6R and Corvette C7R.

Lot’s of good looking cars to pick from.

This would give us another option for the first half of the year. – Slot It Group C, Racer Sideways Group 5 and NSR GT3.

All – Russell showed me a list of spare and optional parts for the TTS-BRM 1/24 scale mini-cars.  I compiled all of the information and attached it to this post.  I also have some pictures of the different set ups each of these models comes with.  I think these would make a fun series as they are basically a large RevoSlot car.  Please review and let me know if you have any questions.

I know we have all but finalized the decision to run the NSR F1 series due to the time they have been in market and the availability of cars and parts and I am all for running the NSR cars but this was posted today on Policars Facebook page.

I agree with Russell.  I would like to keep this series as stock as possible to give everyone time to get used to the cars and save some money.  I would suggest stock everything except screws, braid, motor wire and gearing.  People can choose to upgrade the front and rear wings for the bendable versions but that is it.

Gearing could be an issue as NSR only produces the stock black 27th as well as a 25t and a 24t in-line crown gear.  I don’t know of anyone who manufactures an in-line crown gear for the NSR axle diameter.  I have not run the cars so I don’t know if the stock gear is adequate or if a lower gear is necessary.  It’s crazy that there is not a 26t crown available from NSR.

I would vote for everything stock except for:  1) a specified tire for front and rear, 2)body and pod screws open choice, 3)braid open choice, 4)motor wire open choice, 5)any NSR crown and pinion gears.

                            Thoughts?

UPDATE – The HSARC is now broadcasting their races live on YouTube!  They broadcast their first races this past weekend.  It’s worth watching the races to get a sense of what their track looks like and how the cars run on it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh-zr43UVh4&t=45s.

They will be broadcasting the DTM Proxy races.  They will be installing more cameras for more views in the very near future.

ALL – Additional set up note for the HSARC track

“So on car set up, you have it nailed. Our braid recess is pretty much zero (we really aimed to have it  be flush when we built the track). On Slot .It cars we run guides at stock, no spacers.” – Russell Cox from HSARC.
