DIAMETERS OF POPULAR SLOT.IT GEARS
In the 1-24 world, a tool-guage is available to quickly identify the Tooth-count of a Spur or Crown gear. This is helpful because some manufactures mold the Z-number into their gears, or encodes it into the Part number (eg. 4834A, is a 48-pitch, 34 tooth, angled (12deg) gear), but Many do NOT.
I took this idea and measured Slot-IT Crowns. I found a consistent Diameter for Both color-coded (normal) crowns and White Offset crowns.
Since the tooth-count of Offset crowns are very hard to read (its small and molded into the land between the teeth/edge and the collar) an easy to use measuring system can be Helpful when trying to determine what Used gear is installed on your car (e.g. you did not keep detailed notes on every setup!)

Sammy with MontroseI test drove one of the cars last Sat. At 12v it was pedestrian, but at max 15? volts on the Pyramid it was actually fun. The tires and magnets combined to make handling predictable.
p.s. Marty replaced the Front stock Carrera tires with spares from Slot.ITs, so these cars don’t have the dreaded 1~2mm ‘lift’ from the stock tires and the fact the cars are designed to ride the power Rails on plastic tracks.
I think we should have a “test/demo” race some weekend after the scheduled series, so we get prepared to race against Guests!

Sammy with MontroseMARTY – great looking Z; I had some friends (a couple) who were 240 and 260 Zealots (the only reason they owned a pickup was to haul Z parts home!) What’s interesting to see at some car shows is where a customizer (usually British for some reason), will shoe-horn a 283 ford or early-60s small black chevy into a 260.
MARC – great build, but looking forward to your 2nd edition with maybe a less brittle resin compound.
RANDY – looks great, everyone’s fantasy car, for who ever saw one in the 1960s (I had a 66 two-tone Falcon that was the same body, trim, interior and drive-train, only with different tail-lights and grill)
BRIAN – what a collection. I hope you can get a few to work.

Sammy with MontroseAnyone with a situ. like Erick – if you need to True tires on stock Carrera or Scaley wheels/axles; you can use the club’s “Tire Razor”.
To use it, first find a red Lure case (in the left side white pit boxes) containing:
a) a pulley to attach to the middle of the stock axle
b) O-rings to use as Drive Belts from the truer’s motor to the pulley on the axle
c) Allen wrenches that fit the grub in the Pulley
For more details, search for various instructions online such as this.

If Marc gets a deal with Slot Car Corner on the Predators, then we need to order early (X date in Jan?) and everyone “in on the deal” should order what they need from Marc, so he does not have to cast-the-dice to determine how many FF, FC130, FK180 motors are needed (not a time or cost-effective approach 🙁
RACER
Brand/Model/Livery/Team/#/Year
MOTOR TYPE (FF, FC130, FK180)

I also recommend we do Not randomly state motor requirements in a series of posts. On a certain date Marc could text/email us (or collect in a specific meeting) and create a single table from which to order from SCC. Otherwise there is a risk someone’s requirements will be missed or mis-interpreted and then the fireworks begin 🙁
Ditto for wheels and tyres, if we later consider a mass-order approach on those (say to get a deal on CB Design wheels)."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseNovember 7, 2021 at 11:02 PM in reply to: Proposed 2022 Race Series – Monte Carlo Rally ’61-’71 Proposed builder’s series for rally track #17182I think the myriad of options and hence grouping of regulations, makes a two-class system viable. Series standings would be according to the classes.
Since we are only counting lowest ET per 40-lap heats, that simplifies the Points counting.
Since we are also doing single car heats, there is not an issue of competing directly against a different class.
To start the series, we have the Concours, and points assigned (These could be held in secret by Marc/SM until the series end). However, this would prevent late (mid) entry of cars (for the Concours), assuming the Concours would require all cars present so they can be ranked.
Then, per round, a car is registered in the class (which cannot change) and points are allocated according to Place within the class."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with Montrose#17145 – ” .. This car could have been an excellent class strictly out of the box, as shipped ..”
Randy, perhaps the Policar F1 would be a good future candidate for “box-stock” because the reality is that other than the tires, there is Not much at all you can actually change with the Policar modern F1s.Performance would not match the NSR F1, but it would require significant driver skill to counter-act the engineering and handling challenges of the stock configuration.
Hence – a Policar F1 “drivers series” would be a fun challenge 🙂
Perhaps you can propose a future “box-stock” series, and be the Series Manager 🙂

Sammy with MontroseThanks Marty, I love this sport!
Soon I will be posting a “report” from a recent visit to Dallas Slot Cars. We saw Ken Stevens from HSARC there; as a reminder he entered a car in the DTM Proxy and we raced him in May at Houston. He seems to be very versatile and active; racing in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, often being in the top-half, if not P1-P4."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with Montrose#17147 – this note is not germane to the F1 discussion, but I echo Marty. Marc – it would be very cool if you brought some of your projects to ASCC and gave us a “demo” of how to create a body from wood, or how you create a Buck from wood to use for resin or 3DP bodies.

Sammy with Montrose#17145 “…Getting the (tire wall to wall) to 68mm yesterday was quite a trial…”
REMINDER: the 68MM sidewall-to-sidewall *is* the out-of-the-box spec; as a Limit, Not mandatory minimum.
RULES: have been on the site since January and do not require changes; just Allowed options; and this summer we allowed the Slot.IT crown gears to avoid problems reported by at least one racer. Discussions have been open since January.
Anyone can ran the car stock-as note in #5810 PERFORMANCE, they in general run fairly well out-of-the-box."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"

INSERTS required *only if* an alloy wheel does Not already appear realistic and period correct. CB Design and similar wheels, with Holes only (i.e. spokes r OK, and smoothies with Lug Nuts) are not allowed (i.e. if they are designed for inserts, inserts are required).
TIRES 6, 8, 9mm width – basically the OEM (out of box) size or very close and within the wheel wells. ?? Do the 914s have 10mm Width tires?
MOTORS Need to be Racer specific so we should be sending Marc the spec for the motor:
* CAN/TYPE: FF (‘F1’ Slimcan; FF-050); S-Can (Mabuchi style “Short-Can”; FC-130); Long-Can (a.k.a. ‘boxers’; FK-180)
* SHAFT SPEED: xx,000 rpms (18,000 or less, regardless what your original motor was)Remember: Most FF motors have a 1.5mm shaft-Diameter (OD) and hence cannot use the same Slot.IT and NSR pinions used for the MX16 Orange-end-bell and other S-can and long-can motors. 1.5mm ID Pinions are available but can be tricky to find. https://slotcarcorner.com/collections/pinion-gears-for-1-5mm-motor-shaft
Adapter shafts are also available, but at this moment I do not have a link to a vendor.
