Apologies for the recent email regarding moving GP-C .. in regards to the Ferrari event at COTA.

Sammy with MontroseShawn, doubling on May 19 sounds reasonable.

Sammy with Montrose2018 CALENDAR CHANGES
ALL – Please review the Google Calendar
SHAWN please verify that the F40 vs McLaren GTR schedule is OK (6/23, 7/7, 7/21, 8/4, 8/18, 8/25) The back-to-back on #5, #6 is to accomodate the very active schedule at COTA in Sept and hence we have more than normal “dark” weekends that month. Plus b/c of the annual meeting in Oct we had to move some dates around in Oct also.
RALLY shares Oct 27 with the Blacklight race (like we have doubled up a few times in the past with the Blacklight)
ARY please verify that the Carerra GT schedule is OK (9/15, 9/22, 10/6, 11/17, 11/17, 12/1) #4, #5 are doubled on Nov 17 to accommodate the SVRA race Nov 3-4 and Thanksgiving Nov 24 (similar to some double headers we had in Nov’17). An option is to move #4 to Nov 10 when we would have a long day from the Club Meeting, Carerra, Rally.Rally practice dates have been proposed: http://austinslotcarclub.com/forums/topic/nsr-rally-renault-clio-r3-vs-abarth-s2000/#post-11948

Sammy with MontroseOpen-Ark Days Proposed:
Thu March 22
Thu March 29, Sat March 31 (Easter eve)
Thu April 19, Sat April 21
Thu May 24, Sat May 26
Sat June 16, June 30, Jul 7"... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseI am using the correct wheel – the smaller 14.5mm wheel wont hold the SlotIt Nogrip tires tight. I typed the wrong size.

Sammy with MontroseQ: “[11905] Is the Anglewinder pod allowed?”
A: Please re-read [11901] first sentence; [11894], Para 3, 3.A."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseThanks for doing this Marty! FYI guys- the tires are in the left white pit-box, upper left side. Near them is the sign-out sheet; please take a max of two pairs (4 total).
NOTES
These are ‘new old-stock’ – they do not have the ribs or the severe divots the new tires (from PSR) have. They do have a slight center molding flash and shallow molding divot/nipple.
You need to use the HUDY or the P&N truers – the newest truer does not have a 3mm axle yet.
Avoid using lighter fluid – it accelerates the gumming; just true slow (1.8amp? at 3v)
Don’t try and get rid of the divot, just get rid of the flash and get an even tread-face.
20.9mm trued diameter gives you the better roll-out Marty mentioned and leaves enough meat for two(?) races (and associated practice).
*Roll-out – effectively higher gear ratio (like having a smaller spur) giving more forward movement covered for every turn of the pinion."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseSPYDER FRONT CLEARANCES
— On my Spyder, the spoiler hits the track in two spots- the climb out of the esses (mild power loss is noticeable) and in the Green hairpin/button where it will porpoise out. I added 1.5mm nylon spacers under the body posts, 1.5g over the guide, and slightly sanded the spoiler. Braking spot also has an effect in the Green hairpin, a very late brake spot (last section of the fence) results in power-up at the actual turn-which pops the guide out. A slightly earlier brake spot (end of tree) results in earlier power up and less chance of porpoise.
— Front wheels/tires – a Slot.It 14.5×8 alloy hub with Slot.It NoGrips works better than the stock wheels/tires.
TYRES
Replacement slick rear tires-these seem to be softer than Shore-30, maybe 25-7? Like the soft NSR tires they crack easy with ever-so-slightly ‘too much’ tire glue (even with rubberized slow drying glue …) Honestly I prefer the OEM treaded 30s with the tread trued off.
FLOAT
Fairly tight body float, with most of the float in the pod seems to work; prevents tire rub.
WEIGHT
In addition to the guide weight, my car handles better with 2 tungsten slugs mid-pod.
PERFORMANCE
I have not hit the 3.7s that a few people have hit, but yesterday had many 3.8s and 3.9s were the norm during about 250+ practice laps. !These are my first 3.8s in any car – thanks Russell for sponsoring this series!"... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseBUSHING MOUNTS:
Looks like a molding issue or heat somewhere in the storage/shipping process before assembly. As you were remarking yesterday the QA/testing certainly sucked and the car should have never been packaged!
p.s. the bushings appear to have sleeve pressed into the Oilite main bushing- a pseudo ball bearing effect. They also need to be firmly held in the Pod, with the spacers and spur – does not appear to be enough room for a spacer – except maybe inside on the right/non-drive side."... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseFebruary 21, 2018 at 7:43 PM in reply to: Discussion NSR Rally: Renault Clio R3 vs Abarth S2000 #11901Randy – I *asked for* comments such as your reasoning why the OEM long-can – in AngleWinder configuration – should be allowed. Marty has had good results experimenting with the short-cans, but many of us had good luck with the Hi-torque, long-cans (which work good at low voltage) in the 2017-WRC rally – That’s why I opened the subject up for smart guys like you : )
Invasion of the Pods! – the AW and IL pods currently spec’ed only take short-cans
Spare some change buddy? – 20K; do you mean your spare NSR3001(22k) from the 2017-917?
// and yes- based on history I am sure ‘someone’ will wallop us all!"... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseFebruary 21, 2018 at 12:25 AM in reply to: Discussion NSR Rally: Renault Clio R3 vs Abarth S2000 #118941. Major BuzzKill here: Thanks for starting these discussion threads, but can we use some form of naming convention, like including the year in the thread name (and no need to include ‘discussion’ in the name of the discussion :O) We are all over the naming map this year 😛
I will see if Brian can shorten this topic to: <2018-NSR Rally> -or- <2018-NSR Rally-Clio-vs-Punto>2. Now for the “Stig” to speak: As I have announced a few times, we will start having open-Ark Sat afternoons and Thurs nights starting in April for specific tuning/practice for this year’s rally series. I will also look for “dark” Saturdays to use for Rally practice.
3. The rules have been posted for weeks. They are fairly open-I am welcoming comments on such things as:
A. Motors – keep the current limit to the short-cans and IL or SW pods? Or allow long-cans which basically blows that spec open.
B. Chassis – keep the current open spec allowing hard chassis? After the stink we had in 2017 over the 917 chassis I wanted to allow people to have the stiffness they desired.
C. I hope people by now have at least one mule, or a Clio-and-Punto pair to compare to each other. Other than the Punto model that Marty reminded us of recently, has anyone found an alternative livery? And what do people think of the Clios they are finding?4. I will create a “Dibs List”. We are not racing side-by-side so unique liveries are not as important as our road races; but I do encourage variety-even if that only means a different car number.
5. Wing rules: I don’t want a track-call if a wing falls off – and hence break a racers “flow”. You get a 5 second penalty added to your time (per race/heat) – simple and effective (and I predict very low probability).

Sammy with MontroseAll look pretty cool .. i’m curious to see the performance of the LMPs. I hope they keep their current price point!

Sammy with MontroseLet’s cut to the chase and use Slot.It 15X8 alloys (SIW15808215A) with SIPT-15 17×10 Zero Grips

Sammy with MontroseThe replacement pinions that Alan sells ‘look’ good. I have not installed one on my spare motor, but the teeth/vanes are nice and Pineapple/Coke-bottle shaped and with a dry fit outside the car appear to mesh well with the spur. They also have a little ‘well’ on each end for a drop of Loctite Red or solder. They are 6.4mm in diameter but have the rounded tip instead of the skinny sharp tip that Alan recommended rounding off (from the OEM 6.7m pinion).
*****
This is the OEM replacement from Pendle – appears to be what Alan sells (he appears out of stock today). 6.4mm OD – thick teeth P/N: RS212 RevoSlot Brass Pinion 12t 6.4mm
