Second track or new longer one with more lanes?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorWhere? I only have my one Toyota but I took it apart completely and didn’t notice anything. Were the same issues present with the first version of the GT40?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorI have already pre-ordered the Felbermayr Proton Porsche. They look like tons of fun. Anyone up for a larger track? Say 100′ plus?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorWere they next to the Slot It Toyota’s?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorShawn – any idea how many they received in?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorJim,
You bring up a good point. I wanted to stick to the pink motor because the braking characteristics are so much better and their performance does not fade so much in a five minute heat. Honestly I don’t care if someone wants to run a red motor other than the fact there is no way they will be competitive.
I have a couple of new pink motors if anyone would like to put one in before the race on Saturday or earlier.
porsche917ModeratorWe will be using the pink motors in the BRM series. Thanks for the question.

porsche917ModeratorI am in favor of keeping the rules as they stand allowing any Slot It tire to be used except silicones. I don’t know that there is any perfect compound or perfect set up. I think we are all getting better at setting up our cars on the club track and all running closer as a result. The change in voltage will have a huge impact on car set up and gearing. The change in voltage may also allow participants to start using lead to balance their cars. When we were running at 10v it was more a case of who could build the lightest car and run the smallest crown.
I believe we should leave the tires alone and see what the change in voltage has on the cars performance.

porsche917ModeratorThis seems to be more a debate on manufactures than events. Are there specific manufactures we looking to avoid for race events?
For the Targa there are many options from different manufactures. Fly, Slot It, MRRC, Ninco, Scalextric, Sloter, Racer and numerous other resin manufactures. There are almost too many choices. It might be better if we choose a specific window of time. 1960 to 1969 would be my first choice. I could develop a list of possible cars and manufactures that would be applicable for that time frame.
We could also run a race for World Sports Car’s from 1970 and 1971 that would include the 917’s and 908’s vs. Ferrari 512’s and 312P’s (I would still vote to allow the 312PB’s variants to compete). Many different manufactures make both cars and it could be fun to watch them run together.
On a side note – the Porsche 917K never raced at the Targa. Vic Elford ran a test run in one to appease the head of Porsche racing Ferdinand Piech. The car proved too big and heavy for the smaller Sicilian roads.

porsche917Moderator….Most parts lost from a car award!

porsche917ModeratorIf I calculated the numbers corrrectly, it would take each driver about 25 minutes to drive the 333 laps. I am all for it. Anything involving endurance racing is good with me. Are you talking similar cars to those that competed in the Mille Miglia like the Scalextric Mercedes 300SLR?
When do we schedule it?
Marty
porsche917ModeratorRussell,
Thanks for sharing your story on your beautiful Fly/Slot It Ferrari GTO. It is a stunning car that now runs as good as it looks. I enjoyed reading how the transformation took place.
Marty
porsche917ModeratorShawn,
Let me know as soon as possible. I would like to get this nailed down as soon as possible.
Marty
porsche917ModeratorIs everyone available on the 16th of July? We could use this as our BRM regional since it is so far out we have time to promote it on SCI.
