I want to say I also like the idea of a series that has 1 car racing on both tracks. I think it’s a good idea to keep both tracks to the same measurement: total laps in a fixed amount of time; or a fixed amount of laps timed. I defer to the more experienced in the group as I cannot see how we would have comparable metrics if we didn’t apply the same to both tracks.
I’d also like to float the idea of having at least 1 stock series, maybe even Scaleys or Carreras, yeah… gripe gripe grumble grumble… they suck. The thing is they’ll suck the same for everybody and it could be fun. I guess there’s something I don’t understand when it comes to griping about series we voted on. We all have to stick to the same rules. If we didn’t, I’d totally understand. My 2 cents.
Marc told me he was going to add time to my results if I didn’t run a Targa livery. Maybe with others not running Targa liveries, I should get time deducted. 🙂 I am enlisting the help of my wife to provide a driver with a baguette on the vacant seat next to him. Targa is a fairly long circuit and he’ll probably get hungry!
Appearance wise, I have my Slot.it GT 40 almost ready.

I’m looking forward to the challenge of repainting one of my GT40 bodies and getting the decals on there for this livery… that graffiti looks familiar!

In a deeper dive, could look at the car weight / downforce ratio and see what comes out of that, but I teach maths all day and don’t feel like doing it right now. I appreciate that y’all are willing to have some dialogue. I learn from these discussions. If the consensus is that it’s a rabbit hole not worth exploring, I’m going with Russel’s notion of “Forget about it.”

The large variances are unfortunate because it does make one wonder. I’m going to do some of my own testing and experimenting with it. If it makes a big difference, maybe somebody can loan me a stick of Beemans for pushing Deep Purple past the sound barrier.

I was also thinking about the placement issue after I made that post. We’d have to approach it in such a way that we are replicating the downforce of the motors in as close a fashion as possible.Radial TA,
From what I observed, it was across a wide variety of models with no discernible correlation to a specific model. It could be a batch of motors if this was from a series where everyone bought their cars around the same time.
In general –
I’ve heard tales about how fast the Thunderslots are and how well they stick to the track. I think we might have an explanation for that now. I will also be very honest in acknowledging that my car was not tuned worth a damn and y’all are excellent drivers and tuners. I don’t want to sound like “Mr. Sour Grapes” because I got smoked, but I think it’s all worth considering.April 6, 2025 at 6:23 PM in reply to: 2025 Thunderslot Lola T70/McLaren M6A/McLaren Elva/Ferrari 350 – Road Track #20263Regarding the magnetic downforce issue we discovered yesterday –
While almost all of us went over, it seems like there is still a fairly wide variance with going over. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember the highest being in the high 40s or maybe even low 50s? Mine was at 31 and John’s was the only one within the standard limit of 30. 20 more grams of magnetic downforce seems to be quite an advantage to me, even if I am relatively new to this. I don’t really see it as being reasonable to ask everyone with magnetically hot motors to buy replacements until they find one that’s within the limit. Equally, I don’t see it being reasonable for people that end up with motors with lower magnetic downforce to buy several until they get one comparable to the higher numbers. That seems counter to the spirit of a spec series. Is it sacrilegious for me to suggest we up the limit to reflect the maximum we saw with a stock motor and allow those with lower numbers to run magnets to match that downforce? There’s lots of teeny tiny magnets available to fine tune it. I learned the art of this in Houston.

And yes, if I can figure out it out my alien friend will be driving.

I’m in agreement with running at higher voltage. Do we have a weight limit? I can’t find it in the rules.
Thanks to David for gifting me this beauty!

Given my affinity for a certain color… this is what I’ll be running for Group 5

Responding to some things said in the email thread about the poll results –
I haven’t been doing this long enough to be a good judge of the F22 tires. I am having a problem with my crown gear, but that might be because I lost my rear axle spacers and have not been using them. Other people seem to have some problems. That being said, we had a vote and they made the cut. I know most of you have been doing this a lot longer me, but for my 2 cents I’d say the important thing is keeping it fair. Sounds like these cars might have their quirks and those quirks are there for all of us; i.e. – it’s fair.
I agree that it’s a bummer Group C didn’t make the cut, but again we had a fair vote.
Finally (and I don’t know if this question can be answered now), seems like the Ferrari 512 and BMW could be the likely “go to” cars for the Racer Sideways Group 5 series. Do we know if any cars will be banned? I have Thanksgiving break coming up and trying to figure out which car to get so I can work on it.
I like the idea! My Revo Escort is one of my favorite cars. It’s a hoot to drive it on the big track.
Shoot, I go from being gripey about spending money to making a big order on Electric Dreams and thinking about getting another body for my Lancia that functions just fine but I want to make it look better.
First race is free they said….

In all seriousness, glad to be a part of it.
