        The best explanation is in Ary’s Motor Break-In How To Video

        • As compared to 1/24 open-can motors, the commutator brushes on a FC130 short-can motor cannot be easily contoured/faced with a   Hone   and/or   Turtle.
          You would have to remove the wishbone from the plastic end-bell, contour/face,
          then re-install – with each step Adding risk to damaging a fragile assembly.
        • So – using the MMBIR the comm. on the armature becomes your “hone”.
        • “brushes” <> Pickup Braids in the context of the MMBIR
          (altho it is common to call braids as “brushes” in the context of Carrera and other RTR 1/32 vendors)

          I agree with Eric – we should allow “free” practice, but preferred with at least one other person. 30 minutes after coming races may be helpful for people like John and Marc who have to commute.

          I ~kinda~ get the “realism” aspect of restricting practice to a minimum – but come on, we are not ruled by the SCCA or IMSA et al. The rally tack is not only a challenge itself, but we added complicating factors as compared to most of our Road races:
          — Variable voltage – it takes several laps to see what power level works well with various motor and gear setups;
          — Small-can, long-can, various RPM and torque specs; what’s best balance for speed and control?
          — What gear-ratios and tires provide both speed, some drift and reliable cornering;
          — Direction changes impact rhythm, throttle feathering and various other Muscle memory issues

          Thus, I can see where we do not want to give an advantage to local members, vs. our remote Affiliates (John and Marc at least) – but trying to make the Rally a totally fresh challenge each time can be frustrating if someone is having trouble working out bugs with Setup, Voltage, Rhythm.

          So – at the moment – I’m straddling the fence on the practice “rules”.

            I agree with Marty as in post #16581.
            I suggest that, as a regular part of the process, a Text/call occurs between the people “signed up” so that any last minute changes are confirmed.
            We never want to have a visitor flame us on FB or our site, followed by a member claiming “… sorry guys but my pet turtle got sick …” or “… I had to drag my kid to his anger management therapy …”

                AYE Mateys – I agree we need to start back having the Thurs night Test-N-Tunes.
                Like Erik, back in 2014 Thursdays became my day to learn about the club and get lots of mentoring from Stephen and Rich. From 2014 to 2017, while I worked downtown, I made it a point to come to Test-N-Tune on my way home and even left work early to get there. Test-N-Tune night was almost an addiction and I looked forward to it each week.

                Sadly, when my job moved me to Taylor/Hutto not only did the drive/distance more than double, but Thursdays became an intense day due to needing to have materials approved on Friday morning for regular meetings with executives.

                NOW – as I WFH – it is easier to show up on Thursdays, but I prefer that someone like Randy (who lives < 5 miles away) is Primary and I am Backup host. On non-race Saturdays I will be glad to be Primary host from noon-6p.

                  I agree – the Revo-Slots should be raced against each other and perhaps even in sub-classes dependent on issues such as the Elva potentially out-performing the original Porsches and Vipers et al.

                              May 1st 2021- “South Texas Scale Series” – which rotates between Houston, San Antonio and Austin.

                              CLASSES: LMP (lemans) with a flexi-chassis; 48 to 50k motor (Hawk or Intimidator);
                              GTP – prototype-ish GT bodies with more downforce than the LMPs; stiffer chassis – either a G12 triangle used for GP-F wing cars or a super light chassis with minimal float (laser-cut steel); 50k to 60k motor (Intimidator or Phoenix)

                              For LMP we had 13 racers; two rounds (7, 6); with x2 sit-outs (marshal duty). Local racer “Larry” was P1, PA Watson from Houston was P2, Ken Stevens from HSARC was P3.
                              Thankfully we had an average amount of de-slots. For GTP we had 6 racers and only two dedicated Marshals. Three-minute heats, with three-minute pits; plus Track-calls and Qualifying resulted in each round lasting appx 75~90 minutes. Between LMP and GTP we had ten minutes for lunch and tune. With practice and tune and BS it was a long day (5~6 hours).

                                  A new large extinguisher is on the floor near the front door.  It’s rated for electrical, chemical and wood fires.  This is the easiest place to remember where it is at and can be used to fight a fire where ever it is located.

                                  Mounting in the equipment closet or some other place adds the risk of a) delay getting to the extinguisher or b) being trapped by the fire in trying to get it.
                                  At the front door it can quickly be located, grabbed and carried back to where the fire is, while always having access to the default escape route.
