The second round of the 2014 Trans Am series saw some close racing. After mounting some new race rubber, Shawn’s won the first heat in his Camaro, putting in 67 solid laps. David was second with 60 laps and Brett’s off-the-shelf Camaro was no match for the full-race leaders.
Shawn squeaked by with another win in the second heat, just squeaking by Russell’s Chaparral Camaro, 68 laps to 67. Brett improved his lap count but remained in third.
Heat 3 saw Marty and Russell go head-to-head with Russell running 69 laps in the Green lane to Marty’s 68 in Yellow. Marty did manage to put down the fastest lap of the race with a 4.22 seconds. Once again, Brett improved in his third place finish.
Heat 4 was a very close battle between Marty in Green and Russell in Blue with Russell just edging Marty. Mark’s Challenger came in third.
Marty took full advantage of the inner lane and turned the most laps of the race with 70. Jordan’s first appearance saw him turn 63 laps for second and Mark was third.
Once again, Jordan ran 63 laps to win the 6th heat to David’s 59 and Mark’s 50.
In the final heat, Shawn returned to run a very consistent 67 laps to Jordan’s 64 and David’s 56.
The final tally saw Marty on top with 206.29 laps, Russell second with 204.44 and Shawn third with 202.13. Jordan was 4th, David 5th , Brett 6th, and Mark 7th.
I’m not sure how to do the series results table, but by my calculations, Marty is first with 22 points, Russell is second with 19, Shawn, Jordan and David tied with 13 points, then Steve with 8, Mark with 7, Brett with 5 and Rich with 4.
Round 3 with be this Saturday. Don’t miss it!
Nice story Russell. Thanks for the write up. The next race should be another good one.
