I agree we should have the series manager on hand to discuss the ScaleAuto series. He has the rubber tire report. It would also also be helpful to include him in the full discussion about the chassis options of the metal and carbon parts.
Our new Fiats have the triangular swing arm for the guide. It would be a big help if a swing arm rally expert posted a demo for setting up the arm travel for our track. The car came without an arm locking screw and axle grub screws, but NSR sells a parts kit with 4 different length screws, 4 axle grub screws and 2 springs. I ordered the kit and should have it this week.
I vote to run NSR motors, any long or short can, any configuration, with changes allowed during the long series.
My Fiat serial number 1164 has a swinging guide arm without any hold down screw, and axle grub screw holes but not grub screws. I’m ordering the accessory kit with those parts and springs for the guide arm (I guess).
As of March 28, the rules for this class still have two places that refer to the March 11 meeting when there would be discussion about allowing anglewinder pods/chassis and motors other than short can. Can I race my anglewinder with medium long can?
While everyone with a 1/24 car is testing, please give input on the cars that handle our track the best, especially in the tight turn in green. I’m going to hold off on buying a car until we get good info on or track.
At the risk of derisive reply’s, why don’t we practice with the Scaleauto rubber tires and magnets instead of goop on foam.
Marty, who did you buy your new Porsche from and how could you be sure it had the carbon fiber chassis?
I’m still pulling for the McLaren, and would buy another if we find a way to tame the beast. Maybe some gear changes or even a motor and gear transplant. I would not be surprised if this turns out to be a series with modifications allowed.
Some research shows that 1997 Le Mans had a real large variety of GT cars. Slot.it has a Nissan R390 GT1 that looks pretty sporty. Avant has the Lotus Elise GT. I would not mind disqualifying metal chassis cars like the RevoSlot Porsche GT2.
My Ferrari F40 runs much better since I replaced the 32 tooth gear with a 33 tooth. (thank you David).
How about the full GT list for the 1996 race? Bring back the Porsche GT2, Viper, Corvette, etc.

I did not use any lighter fluid on the tires during truing or running on the track. I usually use lighter fluid to clean before practice or race heats. I wanted to be able to see the scuff surface of the tire during truing and not risk problems during a long truing process.
I trued 2 sets of new tires on my wheels and kept the PN truer running at 3 volts with very little friction measured by the amp meter showing 2.1 or less. I also stopped often to look at the scuff pattern and not over true. With each set, I trued until it looked ok then ran some laps. Once the track was cleaned a little I got 4.0 second laps. One set took two tries on the truer giving a 0.2 second improvement. I ended up with tires measuring 21.2 mm on one set and 21.0 mm on the second set. No rubber balled up or chunked, but there was plenty of rubber dust on the truer. I still have the dimple on each tire. We should require the dimple at pre-race inspection.;)
I switched the tires between right and left side of the drum during each truing session. It looks to me like the sanding surface on the PN is not consistent across the drum from left to right. The right end looks higher and the left end looks more worn. Do we have replacement sanding covers?
February 22, 2018 at 12:15 PM in reply to: Discussion NSR Rally: Renault Clio R3 vs Abarth S2000 #11905Is the Anglewinder pod also allowed? My car came as an Anglewinder.
From the posted specs: “Inline or Sidewinder Short-can NSR pods allowed. “
February 21, 2018 at 11:39 AM in reply to: Discussion NSR Rally: Renault Clio R3 vs Abarth S2000 #11900Why is the anglewinder pod that my car came with not allowed? Is it just too fast or just too bad?
Since sidewinder and inline are allowed, two different motors are allowed, and maybe long can and short can, does this mean one might not be good for the rally track, but someone will figure it out and wallop us all?
Can I run my spare 20k motor?
For those of you selecting a custom livery for your Lola:
February 19, 2018 at 11:06 AM in reply to: Discussion NSR Rally: Renault Clio R3 vs Abarth S2000 #11876I sure would like a chance to run the 2018 rally class on the rally track so that we can sort out car issues like we have been doing with the first three new classes this year. Please set aside a Saturday after the regular race and a Thursday or two for test and tune.
We have learned a lot from early testing with five or six cars for the Thunder Slots and are making some real single car tests for the MRSlotcar setup that were not expected to need changing.
