Q1 already running good old Slot.it Group C

H1 already running RevoSlot.  Some of the new cars either did not run because member was absent, or did not run well due to lack of track time, and almost all of us had some tire surprises.  I’m glad we have plenty of practice as a half year season.

Q2 Targa Florio that was interrupted when we shut down at Kings.  Quite a bit of testing had occured already.  By April we should have the construction cleared from the rally track.  If not, switch to Q3.

Q3 ThunderSlot with the Elva and McLaren M6A tested to run competitively.

H2 BRM Grp C 1/24 that was interrupted by the move.  I hate to have such an expensive and dramatic car in the stable.  This might need to be a class where owners of multi-car teams “rent” cars to people who don’t/won’t have one.

Q4 FORD vs. FERRARI using the Slot.it GT40 and Policar 330 P4 .  Maybe purchase and test this Policar early if it is going to get scarce.

My 1/24 ScaleAuto BMW is moaning in the garage about being left out.  I also liked the 917, Group 5, and BTCC cars that I raced.  Finally, I would like to race the series that had the C6/7 Corvettes that I wish I had run (I have scrapped my Viper), and the Mosler series.  I did not participate in the Formula 1 as I had just joined but I heard a good deal of negativity about it.  If there is a better open wheel car available new maybe give it a run.

I would also like to race an enduro some time with reliable cars that have good headlights.  I don’t think any of my current racing cars have headlights, but my scaleys and other home racing cars do.  Really develop directions for installing headlights.  Actually the sports cars like scaley and Fly have the good aftermarket chassis now.

What fun to be thinking of actual racing again.

Porsche Navision TSW blue, silver, and yellow renumbered to # 68.  (I reserve the right to purchase another car if the Porsche is not competitive.)

Feeling optimistic today about racing by Christmas.  One rule that I find difficult on some cars we assemble from scaley, carrera, etc., is the tires sticking outside of the fenders or needing to trim the fender well/lip.  Are we going to allow tires to be free choice and not constrained by the fenders?

Let’s set a date when the power and computer will be disconnected for each track so that we can know when to be available to dismantle and move the tracks.  I am available for the rest of July except Tuesday afternoons and evenings through July 30.  Then again August 7th until the end of August.

Can all of the tire truing machines be set up for the 1/24 wheels?  I used one a few weeks ago that had been set for single tire truing.  I don’t want to waste time trying to figure this out for each machine if not possible.

Are shore 30 rubber tires mandatory, or can we use shore 22 if available and the weather changes drastically?

There is no maximum weight listed, so is that free choice?

The rules do not include the usual weights must be inside the car or other weighting verbiage.

I also notice three different motors are legal which I take to mean the discussion about some motor being unreliable is not an issue.

Where did members get the metal plate for baking the chassis?

Steve and I were working on my Sauber and discovered the gears are binding somewhere each revolution.  If the offside wheel is moved out a little the mesh is looser and binding stops but the mesh might not be transmitting power fully.  What AW gears are available and will the pinion and gear be spec’d for our series?  I’m seeing only one or two on various sites.

I will wait until we get the motor decision too.

BRM 1/24 tuning tutorial shows the brass weight kit for our cars.  132slotcars has the kits.  Do you know if we will need those weights on our track.  I suspect they are more than our track will need for traction and handling if the sponge tires are good.

I’ve been reading up on full scale rally preparation.  Real rallies seem to have a recon guided tour a day or two before the rally at less than full speed.

The Targa Florio has used many different routes, but always published the route early and the teams traditionally drove a road car, or put a license plate on their race car, and  drove the course in traffic during the week before the race.  Recent courses have been short enough that cars did 11 laps and did not use a navigator.  They did often change drivers and have a pit stop.

Running our Targa Florio race I suggest we start having practice on Thursdays and Saturdays plus Sundays if it is tolerated by Kings.  We should do some scheduling, like us golfers do with tee times, so that members can be assigned an hour (?) with one or two others to practice.  No mandatory marshaling.  Some members may want to run more laps than others, but everyone should keep an open mind to letting the others assigned the time to get equal time on the track.

I believe many members will be testing more than one brand of car or more than one car of the same brand.  Full size teams would really put that kind of effort in.  We should go ahead and allow plenty of practice.

Beats me.  Do you know how to rename a forum?  Maybe we start a new forum, then cut and paste the pertinent text to the new page.  Actually this page becomes redundant when the specs are published.

This Thursday evening I opened the tire trueing machine cabinet and notice two tires still mounted on the high tech truer.  The machine was covered in rubber, but the compressor would not blow away the tire dust.  There was oil/(lighter fluid? ) fused or compounded with rubber.  I prefer the other truer so I just put the mess back in the shelf.

Some one please clean the machine and take the tires.  It only seems fair that who ever left it messed up should clean it
