I was planning on entering a Scaley Mercedes 300SL in the Mille Miglia. It has a front mounted motor with a splined shaft and spring that connects to a driveshaft with the pinion gear. It would create a hardship for me if I had to run a different motor and figure some way to reconnect the drive shaft. I don’t think I could remove the spring off the Scaley motor without wrecking or twisting the spring out of round. I even considered installing a u-joint, but the interior sits over the drive shaft and there is minimal clearance for anything other than the spring.
I would like to see Scaley stock motors (18K) allowed in this class in addition to the 14.5K “spec” motor.
As a footnote, I have pulled the magnet, added bronze bushings, Slot.It axles and gears, BRM Classic wheels and tires, and a wood guide, and I’m still 2 tenths slower than a box stock Scaley Mercedes with absolutely no mods. Makes you wonder if it’s worth the time and cost to field a slower than stock car to be slowed even more with a manditory 14.5K motor.
Let me know soon if I have to cut the chassis out of this car and try to fit something else.
