Warm clothing was the order of the day for Round 4 of the 2014 Can Am Series but the action on the track was hot. Several drivers posted their best race totals last Saturday. Roy and Jordan started off a great battle in their GT40s in Heat 1. Race groups matter less than beating the other guy! Roy pulled out almost a lap on Jordan by the end of Heat 1. Rich was third in his new team-liveried McLaren. Roy and Jordan continued the battle in Heat 2 with Jordan making up the deficit from Heat 1 and pulled ahead by the end of the heat, both drivers with 73 laps. The cold weather seemed to suit the Porsche 917-30 and lap 7 of the heat saw a lap of 3.803, a new series record.
Steve recovered from an early spin in Heat 3 to remain close to Jordan but couldn’t quite catch him. The Porsche continued a very strong run. The Porsche prevailed in Heat 3 with Steve a (corrected) 71 laps in second and Mark’s Chaparral third with 60 laps.
In the final 3 heats David had his best Can Am race with a total of over 191 laps. Mark had a series high of almost 184 laps. Steve has continued his consistency, turning 71 laps in each of the last eight heats. Rich completed over 200 laps for the first time. Roy was not quite able to catch Jordan, a lap behind him at a very respectable 216.45. Jordan has gone from 196 laps in Round 1, 205 laps in Round 2, 215 laps in Round 3, and finishing 2nd overall with 217.80 laps in Round 4! And, I had my best race ever with 226.31 in the Porsche. The speeds are continuing to climb and this series is proving to be very competitive. On to Round 5!
