2012 Slot.It Challenge – Modern GT: Round #4

The fourth round of the Slot It Modern GT series was one for the record books with Marty setting a total lap record with 77+ laps in each of his three heats.  His final total was 231.35 laps and a fast lap time of 3.712.  All of this was done with Slot It’s new Porsche GT1 Evo 98.  The first race for this car and it looks like a winner.

Second place was won by Shawn with 221.12 laps.  That lap total would normally win any of our races and Shawn’s fast lap of 3.889 was up there with the best.  Shawn was talking about possibly changing a crown gear in hopes of finding a little more speed.  We will have to see if the gear change and the increased speed will work or will it make the Ferrari too much to handle.

Third was won by Roy with a solid run of 214.71 laps.  His McLaren was down on power in the warm up so Roy quickly changed his crown gear but that was still not enough to overcome a motor that appeared to be down on power.  Looks like there is a motor change in Roy’s future.

Fourth was Brian with a tough run in his newly painted McLaren.  The car looks fantastic but was still having a little trouble in the handling department.  The car was quick on the straights but the rear end was trying to come around under breaking on the back straight.  Brian did a great job of driving to keep the car up in the running with a lap count of 210.80 and a solid fast lap time of 3.950.

Fifth was Stephen with a lap count of 202.82 and a fast lap time of 3.890.  Yes, a fast lap time of 3.890!  Stephen obviously has the speed to do a quick lap time like that but he does not have the same amount of track time as the others so he is still experiencing a steep learning curve.  His quick lap times serve notice that he will be someone to contend with in the very near future.

Sixth was Brandon who was given a pass to run his out of the box McLaren in the anglewinder configuration.  Brandon did all he could with the time he had to make the car a contender but just ran out of time before the race began.  Unfortunately he experienced all sorts of issues that just made the car almost impossible to drive.  I am sure Brandon will have the car sorted for the next race and will be back in the hunt for a podium spot.

Overall Marty’s win and fast lap put him way out in front and if he has another strong performance the top spot on the podium could be out of reach.  Shawn is also pretty secure in second place but third place is a real toss up.  Whoever can bring their “A” game to the next two races stands a very good chance of taking the third place podium.  Good luck to everyone.
