Last Saturday saw one of the largest race fields yet as 8 drivers competed in Round 3 of the Slot.It Challenge. No shortage of course marshals this time! In the first heat, Brian was in the Yellow lane, Kevin in Blue, and Ary in Green. Kevin pulled out to an early lead; at halfway Ary was ¾ lap behind, followed by Brian. In the final few laps, Ary put on a charge to pull within 4 feet at the finish. Kevin and Ary had 73 laps and Brian had 65.
For heat 2, Ary moved to Blue and Brian moved to Green. Jim joined them in the Yellow lane. At the start Ary and Brian ran close with Jim not too far behind, but Ary put the pedal down, running in the mid 3.7s, with a low of 3.730. Jim and Brian battled for second, with Jim finishing 3 feet ahead of Brian, both with 70 laps, while Ary completed 75 laps.
Heat 3 had Roy in Yellow, Brian in Blue, and Jim in Green. This was a close race; at the halfway point, all three had 35 laps. Roy began to pull out a slight lead, but Jim and Brian stayed close. At the end Roy had 73 laps, Jim 72, and Brian 69.
Marty’s first run saw him in Yellow, with Jim in Blue and Roy in Green. Roy and Marty had a fierce battle, running neck and neck, lap after lap. The pace proved too fierce for Jim as he faded and eventually pulled out. Marty came out on top, 73 laps to Roy’s 72. Jim completed 59 before having to withdraw.
For the fifth heat, Shawn got his first run, in the Yellow lane, with Roy moving to Blue and Marty in Green. Roy really got into a groove in the smooth Blue lane, running very fast with few mistakes. Marty had a couple of offs trying to keep up. Roy ran a most excellent 76 laps, with Marty at 73 and Shawn at 69.
After watching all this action, I finally got my turn at the wheel, er…, trigger, in the sixth heat, running Yellow. Marty was Blue and Shawn was Green. The heat started out with the three of us close; by halfway, Shawn and Marty were tight with me a little behind. Shawn stepped it up and pulled out to complete 75 laps, Marty had 73, and I had 72.
Heat number seven was also a close race. Kevin, running Yellow, and Shawn, running Blue, put on a great battle that I could not quite join. Shawn completed 75 laps, Kevin just behind at 74, and I had 72.
For the final heat, Ary rejoined the fray in Yellow, I was in Blue and Kevin was in Green. Once again Ary turned the dial to Ludicrous Speed, turning a mighty 76 laps. Kevin and I had 72 laps.
The final tally showed Ary with 224.3 laps, Roy with 221.32, and Shawn had 219.77. Ary was the only driver to run in the 3.7s with a fast lap of 3.721. Brian is going to have to reset minimum lap speed in the software!
On to the next round!
