What the heck is going on with that Capri?
Here is the deal. When we ran this series in 2013 I spent a large amount of time playing with different set ups for my Racer Sideways Ford Capri until I finally found one that worked well. This set up helped me win the first Group 5 series and is the same set up I am using in this year’s series.
The set-up uses an in-line configuration with a zero off-set motor pod, a 22K NSR Shark short can motor, 9t Slot It pinion and a 24t Slot It alloy crown. This was attached to a Slot It solid 51mm rear axle, Slot It spherical bushings, 17×10 magnesium rear wheels and 20×11 BRM shore 25 rear tires. The wheels and crown gear are attached using 2mm Slot Car Corner grub screws. I have a Slot It weight placed at the back of the motor pod by the rear axle, stock front wheels with 17×10 zero grip front tires, Slot Car Corner rounded end front axle adjustment grub screws 3mm on top and 5mm on the bottom and a Slot It wood guide and Slot It braid. The chassis has been baked as well so it is perfectly flat.
I am not saying this will work for everyone or that it’s the only way to go but it has been successful twice so there might be something to it. You are welcome to use any or all of this information.
Looks like that is what I need to do to my Capri. Then I need to find a good driver! LOL
Great job on the car, Marty. You set a pretty high bench mark.
