The third round of the Austin Slot Car Clubs Thunderslot Proxy race was the closest race of the three held so far with three of the eight cars finishing on the same lap and two of those separated by only one hundredth of a lap. It does not get much closer than that.
To keep everyone as close to the action as possible the race was broadcast live on the clubs YouTube channel along with live commentary and feedback from those watching.
The track was in great shape having been cleaned by the clubs Scalextric track cleaning truck and some good pre-race laps by all the drivers making sure all the cars were ready and the track was rubbered in. The track room was a cool 74 degrees which is saying something since it has been over 100 plus degrees outside every day for the past nineteen days in a row.
We had eight entries and the same three drivers from the previous two rounds returning to do their best in this third round. The drivers all being the same and by now used to the format and how to make the most out of each heat.
The racing was fast and furious from the drop of the green flag for the first heat and continued that way through all eight heats. Each of the three racers did a great job giving each car the best run they could. The results reflected the great effort of the three racers with this being the closest race of the three rounds.
The final results had Marty’s car finishing on top with the next four cars all finishing on the same lap and the following two finishing within two laps. Brian’s McLaren was sorted out and was able to set the fastest lap with a time of 3.668.
The overall series results changed slightly with the top spot changing from John’s McLaren to Marty’s Lola spyder. Randy’s Lola spyder is a close third.
