BRM 24 Hours of Tacoma – The Story, Part 2

As usual, the ups and downs…….

UPDATE:  9-28-14

Right after writing the first blog entry about how much I was looking forward to the 24 Hours of Tacoma my wife informed me that she was going to be out of town that same week attending a company retreat.  She was happy to tell me about it thinking the race was only on the weekend not realizing the practice and qualifying was during the week she would be gone.  Disappointing news that was hard to take.  Now I will be scrambling to find a caregiver.  Wish me luck.

This news came right before the Tudor and WEC weekend races at COTA.  It was great watching the WEC cars running at night.  There is nothing like watching these cars running at night.  It also fueled my excitement for the 24 Hours of Tacoma and running during the night.  I am a babysitter away from going.

Team shirts – of course we have to have some team gear.  Looking good not only makes us feel good, it also sends a message to the others that we are a team, a good looking team, no matter how we drive or finish.

The Car – McLaren F1 GTR

We have been guessing as to what the car was going to look like.  Every BRM produced to date has been different from the previous model.  The original Group C cars were nothing like their second offering – the Megane.  The third offering was different still – a limited edition McLaren F1 GTR, the forth a Porsche 917 and the last release a Sauber Mercedes C9 with still a different set up.  With all of these differences what would the McLaren look like?  It would be great if we had set up or had driven a similar set up previously.  We have run numerous Group C races as was a Megane El Piloto (IROC) series.  With knowledge gained in both of those series we should be well set up to deal with anything BRM can throw at us.

UPDATE:  10-1-14

We now know what internals of the car will look like and once again they are different than anything we have seen previously – an aluminum chassis, independent front axle mount, a motor pod with an angle-winder set up just like the Megane.  Ary has loads of experience with the podded chassis having set up the Meganes for the clubs El Piloto series.  This should pay big dividends in setting up the car.

There is even a video posed on BRM’s Facebook page showing the car absolutely flying around their test track.  If we can get our car to run like that we would have to screw up the driving pretty good not to do well.

Rules:  What rules?  There are general rules that have been laid out but there is no detail.  Hope to have these soon.
