With the overall 2nd through 5th places being separated by only 4 points (Roy and Marty had 28 points, Jim 27 and Shawn 24) as of round 5, round 6 promised to be very competitive. And it was!
First heat: Marty vs. Roy vs. Jim.
Within a couple laps from the start, Jim’s car starts to pull away on the green lane – Jim did set the fastest lap of that heat with 3.964. Ten laps in, Jim deslots; Marty and Roy go though and battle for first place for another 10 laps. Roy deslots, and Marty finishes the heat with 72 laps, followed by Roy with 71 and Jim’s 70.
Heat 2: Shawn vs. Jim vs. Roy.
Roy has a late start and loses 1/4 of a lap. The race goes on for 25 laps without a deslot; Jim was first followed closely by Shawn. At the 26th lap, Roy’s Lancia deslots and immediately starts to sound sick, from that point its performance declined. Shawn managed to pass Jim and finished first with 72 laps. Jim finished 2nd with 72 laps, only a couple feet behind Shawn. The problem with Roy’s Lancia, a loose front body screw, placed him 3rd with only 60 laps.
Heat 3: Ary vs. Shawn vs. Roy.
Roy has a second late start, losing 2 laps due to repairs on the Lancia. Shawn forges ahead setting fast laps and closing in on Ary, to be lapped on 2nd place. By lap 32 Shawn deslots, now Ary is chasing him for first place. At lap 45 Shawn’s Coke Porsche tips over and Ary takes first place, finishing with 73 laps. Shawn set the fastest lap of the heat with 3.927 seconds and finishes 2nd with 72 laps. Roy finished 3rd with 66.4 laps.
Fourth heat: Ary vs. Russell vs. Shawn.
Plenty of 3.9 seconds laps on this heat. Shawn was the first to set fastest lap with 3.956, a couple laps later Ary set a 3.931; Russell, not wanting to be left behind, turned a 3.908 lap . Shawn desloted a few more times than he should, Russell a couple times. Ary desloted at lap 67 on what seemed to be a 75 laps heat, he ended up with 74. Russell finished 2nd with 72 laps and Shawn with 69.95.
Heat 5: Ary vs. Marty vs. Russell.
This heat saw the most laps, all the racers finished with 73 laps. Following the order they finished on the previous heat; Marty started ahead of Russell, consequently ahead of Ary. The race did not change until lap 54 when Russell desloted after having Ary on his tail for six consecutive laps. Ary started to chase Marty for first position and passes on lap 68, finishing first. Marty finished second and Russell 3rd.
Heat 6: Russell vs. Marty vs. Jim.
Great heat with plenty of door to door racing. Russell’s Porsche was clearly the fastest car of the race, this time around he set a 3.916 seconds lap. All racers desloted at some point. The race finished with Russell in first place and 71.8 laps, followed by Marty with 69.5 and Jim’s 68.8 laps.
After the race was finished, each racers single worst result was dropped producing the overall final classification for the series. The most drastic change was Roy’s; he was on 2nd place by round five and fell three position on the standings, finishing in fifth position. Marty, Jim and Shawn gained, each, one position.
Congratulations to all the participants. See you all on Slot.it Challenge Q4.
