We had a light field for the fifth round of the Revoslot Toyota GT One race, but that didn’t affect the quality of the racing. Track temps are climbing and the cars are behaving a bit different than in earlier races, but drivers were able to compensate by their second heat.
The biggest challenge faced by racers, which has been a shared challenge for the entire series, is adapting to the heavier Revoslots after running the ThunderSlots in the CanAm series. It takes the better part of a driver’s first heat to reorient their throttle fingers to the behavior of the cars. The quicker one can adapt is a real differentiator in the outcome of this race.
The other common theme across all of the GT One races so far is the amount of rubber these car/tire combinations leave on the track. However, for reasons we aren’t able to explain, the clag build-up on tires was much less than in previous races, resulting in very few cases of lumpy tires across the heats.
A first for this series is the deeper technical documentation of the cars. This is a spec series, allowing only manufacturer’s parts, so it is interesting to see the difference wheel RPM, the combined result of motor speed and gear train tuning and how that does (or does not!) align with the finishing place of the each driver.
Marty continues to extend his lead, garnering another bonus fast-lap point, leaving the heavier competition for second and third place.
