For 2014 the Austin Slot Car Club will be using a new points system that will split the competitors into two groups – an “A” and a “B” group. The goal of the change is to give new racers an opportunity to race against other new racers for points in all the races while racing alongside the clubs more experienced racers to learn how to drive from those that have already put in their time.
Below is a list of the common questions surrounding the A and B groups. Please review these and post any questions or concerns you have.
What determines who is in the A group and the B group to start with?
-“A” bracket racers are those that have finished in the top three in the final results of a race series in the past two years or are running lap totals that are inside 5% of the winners lap count for at least four races.
-“B” bracket racers are those that are running lap totals under 5% of the winners lap count or are new to the club and have not raced in a quarterly series.
How does a racer move up from B group to the A group?
-A racer that finishes within 5% of the winners lap total in four or more races within a quarterly series will have the option to move to the A group. This means that a racer can move up within a series after the fourth race in the series.
-A racer that finishes within 5% of the winners lap total in four or more races within two quarters of racing will automatically be bumped to the A group.
Do we have to adjust our points system to go deeper or do we award separate points for both the A’s and B’s?
-The points system does not change.
-Everyone races for the same ten points.
-The points will be awarded the same as they are now with 1st getting ten points, 2nd getting nine points and on down to 10th place getting one point.
-This way if a racer chooses to move up from the B group to the A group within a series he can carry the points he has earned while racing in the B group without having to readjust everything.
Can a racer move up within a series or do they have to wait until it is finished?
-They can move up within a series since the total points available are split between the two groups and are based solely on the finishing position within the race.
Can a racer move back down to the B group once they have raced in the A group?
-Once in the A group a racer cannot move back down to the B group. This can be appealed to the club’s board of review.
Great news I hope it spurs on competition more.
