Mark,
Since I was camping with Alex for scouts when the rules were finalized, I can’t fully answer your questions. Historically, we’ve not allowed the low profile front tires due to the non-scale appearance. I expect that to continue which would eliminate the 17×8 zero grip NSR tires. All of my NSR 917Ks have the black motor pod so I’m not sure that the red is the stock spec. If anyone has a newer 917, perhaps they can help us out. According to the post you made on Monday, gears are open. Somewhere I remember seeing that we’re allowing the NSR screw in guide. Since people were wanting to keep the costs low, I would say the stock oilite bearings to be retained. This whole keeping costs down on a NSR series is still baffling to me but whatever. The rear tires are to be the stock tires but can be trued which eliminates the “tread” on them. Again this is from your post on Monday.
I’m confused why you’re asking me about the finer details on the rules as that didn’t seem to stop everyone from making those changes to the rules without my input.
For those that don’t know already, the car comes with a 11t pinion and 32t spur from NSR.
Here is a link to all the stock parts and part #’s for the 917K:
- NSR only makes the 917K. What other bodies are you referring?
- I’m fine with that
- Chassis stiffness is open. Black, white, blue, green, etc.
- We’re using up to 22k motors
Hmmm…. 20k at 12V…… sounds like a lot of broken NSR 917 bodies.
Marty,
Won’t you still need a 22k motor for the NSR 917? Don’t they only come with the Shark 20k?
Hi,
Now we are in Houston. Think we will arrive in Austin by the end of the week…I cannot make the Saturday meeting. Would you bring this subject up in the meeting?
Maybe the members can think of something i have not thought of
I also do not know if the race software randomizes the drivers before the start of the race.
I’m wondering how many people are setting up cars for this race series? If there are enough people then no problem. If I still wanted to race 2 cars and there are not enough people, and had to race myself in the heat, would I be able to input a heat with my average of combined laps, or lowest lap heat, or just take a 0 (zero) for 1 of the cars?
I would not like to do that, but that is a option. Drivers want to race and so do I!!
Thanks Lance
Marty,
I’m going to be in Grapevine for my mom’s surprise birthday party, so I’ll not be able to make it. Why the change of heart?
NICE!! I’m in for both honestly.
December 30, 2015 at 7:43 AM in reply to: Upgrading the 2015 Formula GP car with the new SVQ-Slot chassis #8753Great write up, Ary! Thanks for the walk through.
Hopefully a few people will have some DTM’s they are testing by spring so we can get some feedback on any tricky issues with the bodies or pans.
I will have my Merc Stihl DTM car this Saturday for people to look over.
3. Wheels & Tires
Don’t 17×10 rear wheels work better (tighter) for the F30s, as compared to rather skinny 17x8s?As we use these on 15×8 Grp C wheels, I don’t see how the 17×8 wheels would pose a problem.
Mark,
You do realize that the Shapeways chassis is for the BMW M3 DTM and not the M4, right?
I also just picked up Carrera #27476 Mercerdes “Stihl” as the BMW I got is almost too pretty to race.
Those look a little Scaley, imo.
I honestly don’t care either way. I have mostly WRC era cars and a couple of older classics but no Group B cars. Just need to know what cars to start looking at for that series.
So are we running Group B or WRC? I thought we were running WRC which implies modern rally 2000 and later cars.
