TA – you were not part of the club the last time we tried super skinny tires, (e.g the 2014 Trasn-Am). In that case the spec was BRM S-117, shore-30-22mm-Dia x 9mm-Width. Results were brutal, altho to be fair those cars were generally Heavy.
I favor having “open” tires with a max width of 10mm; contingent on them fitting under the wheel-well Lip/skirt; and they need to look reasonably “scale” and period-correct for the car.
If that means your cars need 6mm wide tires; Goferit! If that means 10mm tires look appropriate and fit in the wells on John’s car – fantastic.
IMHO the term “Reasonably” should be used with lots of judgement; the more “rigid” we get on this series with specs, the more we deviate away from its theme of “a builders series” and a series where “Concours d’Elegance” and innovation are weighted higher than most other criteria for qualifications.

Sammy with MontroseOctober 28, 2021 at 12:27 PM in reply to: Proposed 2022 Race Series – Monte Carlo Rally ’61-’71 Proposed builder’s series for rally track #17113TYRE WIDTH – IMHO –
- Max Width limit to 10mm; 8mm preferred .. but > >
- Scrutineering Criteria = must not exceed the wheel well/skirt/lip (by 0.5mm)
- v.s. ‘Visible from Above’ which can be subjective and does not really fulfill the true objective of the Rule which is basically – don’t use F1 width tires and wheels sticking out of a sedan;
-
- i.e. if it looks like a Drift car the tires are too-wide.
-
- However, if a *Sliver* of black appears, DQing the tires is a little heavy-handed …

Sammy with MontroseTHANKS to Chap65 and TaRadial for meeting with Bob Pomann and his wife. A good time was had by all! Bob and wife were Very impressed with the club and Russ’ original pictures and all the hard work and details he did to make it such a great venue (Bob is a photog himself).
Randy entertained them with his usual banter and encyclopedic knowledge – but Most importantly raced Bob with the NSR F1s – Bob actually got a feel for the track quite quickly and posted some respectable 4.1s. Russ had some some 60s-ish car themed music which added to the ambiance.
Finally – Bob was so impressed with Datto’s Mousetrap tyre-cleaner that he bought the improved prototype (Marty the cash is in your pit box).
*This* night is what slot-racing is about – at it’s core – Fun times with friends! Good show guys.

Sammy with MontroseAFX G-Plus – HobbyTown has a small stock; usually have some good cars.
Not as pretty but supposedly higher performance cars: Vipers; Wizards.
The chassis can actually be used under Mega-G bodies.
IMHO – the AFX G-Plus are already pretty hi-performance – esp. for a relatively short track – but Do handle better with the O-ring Front wheel-and-tire sets (to prevent braid lifts and hence dead spots).
They both also sell AFX G series compatible parts and tools.

Sammy with MontroseI have two new-in-box “bicycle lifts” originally planned to hang sections of the drag-strip from kings rafters. These use a pully system and are rated at about 50-pounds each.
Just an idea on a way to store the HO track if we proceed with it.

Sammy with MontroseRuss – YUM – looks great!

Sammy with MontroseOfficially, NSR intended these to be M2 (i.e. 2mm diameter) holes, hence the useless 2mmL x 2mmD (b/c they are Too Short) pack of M2s that should be included in your jewel case.
IMHO – this decision makes no sense from NSR (e.g. does not really make the chassis “uglier”, or lose performance, to make the uprights fat enough for their typical 4-40 screws).
My first black/medium chassis accepted the M2s and I have SCC 4mm Oval-heads on the Top and Bottom.
PER MY PREVIOUS POST #16963, on my Green/X-Hard chassis the top axle adjustment screw holes *were* tight enough for M2s, yet the Bottoms were loose, forcing me to use 4-40 brass grubs (very carefully).
NOTES My new LEB Hobbies car, has wide bottom holes (needs m2.5 or 4-40). Yet – I have another spare black chassis that Is Tight Enough for the M2s (WTH?)
For the bottom – if you have M2.5 grubs (from Thunderslot?) they *may* be the perfect solution.
Otherwise you may want to TRY USING 4-40s (i.e. normal NSR, i.e. use a 0.50 wrench).
The English bit size is: 7/64 (i.e. 0.1094) which is just small enough that the 4-40 (i.e. 0.1120) can Bite into the plastic and hold.
Using the 4-40, you will see the stretch-marks, but unless you are ham-fisted the risk of damaging the chassis is Moderate. Take it slow and careful, one side at a time.

Sammy with MontroseROUND ONE PLANNING – 2022 ASCC SERIES
Oct 9 we had an in-person meeting with five of our 12 members. We focused only on the First-half (Q1 – Jan-Mar, Q2-Apr-Jun, H1-Jan-Jun) series. These are still open for debate as needed.
Our 2022 First-half – Candidates are:
Q1: Slot.IT Group-C as normal (no rule changes)
Q2: Rally-22-a – Monte Carlo (to give us a chance to finalize rules, obtain cars and spares, etc.)
H1: ThunderSlot (existing cars available [McLaren, Lola]; (if the Elva seems to have an advantage we will need to discuss.)We will soon have a meeting to cover the Second-half (Q3: Jul-Sep, Q4: Oct-Dec, H-2).
Possible Second-half Candidates:
NSR GT-3: Mosler (as ran in 2015)
RevoSlot: (we need to clarify the tire and wheel situ. and what models to allow)
Rally-22-b: Targa-Florio redux (new cars? different years?)"... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseWelcome Frank! First – I would like to suggest that visit the Houston Scale Auto Racing Club (HSARC) in Cypress on Jones Rd. They are a 1/32 club very much like us – I think you would really enjoy the camaraderie and it’s a great sport/hobby. You can visit them for free; and they have a retail shop out front.
HO-wise – as Russ mentioned we have a few constraints on space. If the 80-footer is something you are offering we may be interested … but space may be an issue. Please reply with details.
NOTE We occasionally have some fun HO races on a temporary plastic AFX track on the cover of our existing Rally track. Lane length is appx 30-feet but good enough for fun.
As Russ said, many of us have AFX Mega-G+ cars, along with our stashes of legacy T-Jets and the various Autoworld cars (repos of various Aurora product families), and we have DS Racing controllers as well as the OEM ‘trollers.
OFFER/REQUEST: If you ever visit Austin, please come by some Saturday (check our calendar) and bench-race with us and check us out 🙂 [personally I am usually at the track from 1p-7p even on Non-race days; 5124681376].
It is totally free to hang out with us or run several sample laps on our road course; we are very mellow and not a commercial business.
Our sport is not as hard-core as the metal 1-24s such as raced at Jim’s track(s); (or at PA Watsons or Pflugerville) but we are competitive and the action is fast. There is also more modifications you can make to a 1/32 car as compared to a HO.
Spyder Out!

Sammy with MontroseGREEN CHASSIS WEIRDNESS
Using a green ultra-hard chassis, the holes for the top Axle-grubs were tight and useful – for M2 allen grubs.
BUT the Bottom holes were so loose, I had to carefully drill a hole large enough for a 4-40 (the typical NSR grub screw) and installed the brass upgrades. CAUTION there is barely enough ‘meat’ in this area to allow the 4-40s. This was only My experience and fix; “your mileage may vary”; “caution – coffee is hot and should not be placed between your thighs”; “don’t take stellara if you are allergic to stellara”.
ESSE TURN CLIMB – the climb-out likes to porpoise the car out of the slot when entering the back ‘straight’. A 1/2-mm to 1-mm flying gap with a slight bit of axle slop seems to prevent the Pop-out. 3/4 to 7/8 mm was the range my particular car seemed to “like”.
I also added a 3 gm lead disk behind the guide.

Sammy with MontroseAS OF THE CLUB MEETING 9/25 – the members present voted Aye/for and David approved the use of the Slot.IT inline crown gears.
MANDATORY: Slot.IT crowns can only match the tooth-count(z-number) offered by NSR;
24, 25, 27
RPMs: using the stock 10z pinion: at 11v: 27/10= 7265 25/10 = 7847 24/10 = 8174
RECOMENDED: Brass/bronze vs. Alloy/aluminum // brass seems to wear less.
Important Note: NSR motors are setup to turn Counter-Clockwise (lefty) vs. Slot.ITs which turn CW/righty – looking at the motor from the pinion end. If you install a crown with the plastic gear bed on the right (looking at the pinion end) the car will run Backwards, and you’ll notice a slightly smaller/tighter open area in the gear box. DO NOT ‘fix’ the problem by swapping motor wires – you are now messing up the Advance (deg.) the motor has built into the Armature. You are also now running the armature backwards (from any break-in from the factory or when you prepp’ed it).
Some 4-40 grub screws are a little too long in the arbor/collar of the gear and can hit the motor or pinion.
/** To Series Manager Dave Cass and ASCC members; my sincere thanks for accepting the proposal to run Slot.it crown gears as an option to the NSR gears for the F1 series. These gears will make the F1 car smoother and more reliable. Ran over 200 laps today with no issues. Tip: Have added significant weight. These cars in the right hands are sub 3.8 possible. John/Lotus-JR **/
