Randy – We talked about the BRM Group 2 series at this past Saturday’s club race and meeting. We all agreed that the series will be limited to the following cars:
Alfa Romeo GTA, Ford Escort (not the TTS version), BMW 2002, and the soon-to-arrive Ford Capri RS2600.
All of these cars share the same chassis layout and running gear.
Both versions of the BMW are allowed.
November 3, 2022 at 10:50 AM #18388In looking at running the Policar classic F1 cars for the 2023 season I did a deeper dive into all of the models to see if there were any significant differences between them.
All of the cars with the exception of the two newest Lotus cars are basically all the same. The two Lotus cars that are outside the norm have rear wheels/tires that are wider than all the others. Both of these cars could be allowed to run in the series as long as they change their rear wheels/tires to match the ones on all the other cars.
Here is a complete list for comparison.

November 4, 2022 at 4:35 PM #18390Ha! This is why, last night as David and I ran our (mostly) out of the box Policars that my Ronnie Peterson Lotus was so quick on stock tires. I’ll go ahead and shrink my tire profile a bit. 🙂
BTW, they’re really good just out of the box…and so dern purdy.

November 6, 2022 at 7:45 PM #18395Marty, I just saw this car list for the BRM after ordering the Scirocco 🙁
I was not able to weigh in on this.Is it final?

-Warren ZevonNovember 7, 2022 at 12:21 AM #18398David and Erik, did you run the Policar f1’s with the plastic wheels? Did you true them? Do you expect to use the correct size aluminum wheels to be able to true the tires? Erik, what brand tire truer do you have? What volts were you running the cars?
November 7, 2022 at 9:26 AM #18399Datto – the decision to allow the Scirocco is up to the series manager. We discussed it and felt the car would be outside the time frame for the current car list and may offer an advantage due to the shorter rear end on the car. I would say this is still up for discussion with the series manager.
November 7, 2022 at 10:53 AM #18400Do we know who theories manager is yet? The Mk1 Scirocco, Mk1 Escort and Mk1 Capri overlap production dates.

Answers:
Yes – I used the stock plastic wheels on non-trued tires. I did purchase the aluminum wheels and replacement F22 tires for the car, but have not done anything with them yet. My tire truer is a Tire Razor – haven’t tried putting the wheels/tires on it…but I think it will work. We were running the cars at 12v.

November 7, 2022 at 9:58 PM #18403Datto – I just looked up the Group 2 cars from the European Touring Car championship on the Racing Sports Cars website. It looks like the Scirocco first raced in 1975 whereas the other cars all raced earlier in the 70’s. I would leave this up to the race director.
November 8, 2022 at 6:12 PM #18405At the original class selection meeting we had a paper with classes listed. The Monte Carlo 72-82 had a list of cars either specified or suggested for this period. Can we get that list in a proposed form on our website? Understanding there may be some overlap from the 2022 race that would either be in, or not, like our Porsche 914/6’s and 911’s.
November 9, 2022 at 11:14 AM #18410Just ordered:
Policar PCAR04BMarch 701 Jackie Stewart in his tartan helmet. Won’t be changing that livery and helmet.
RevoSlot RS0132 Alfa GTA dark blue #93 I think it raced at Mid-Ohio when I saw the races. I cannot imagine changing the big fancy car number to avoid a duplicate, but it will be on the rally track by itself. I will definitely run this for fun on the big track too.
BRM BMW Kleber 91 1975 Le Mans. Kleber was the BFGoodrich French affiliate in 1958-1961 when we lived in Germany. It became part of Michelin like BFG.
So I am done unless the Monte Carlo rally cars don’t get covered by what I have.
November 14, 2022 at 12:51 PM #18443(un) BOX2 My F! car. (Jackie Looks like he might be sitting on a pillow. Beautiful tartan helmet.
November 16, 2022 at 5:30 AM #18461WHEN can we have the Race at Marc’s? During the holidays?
A New Years day party? Early Jan?"... get on your bad motor scooter and ride!"
Sammy with MontroseNovember 17, 2022 at 9:14 PM #18473Mark – I think its best for him to have the track up and running before we head over.
November 28, 2022 at 12:13 PM #18517I tested my 1/32 RevoSlot Alfa Romeo on the rally track yesterday and it does not hit the track on the main straight hump. My tires have not been trued, so car is out-of-the-box ride height. It took the turns fine, but the track was so dirty, by the third lap the tires lost grip up hill running clockwise.
