For another Monte Carlo race I found a site with lists of cars participating by year. This could help pick some years when we might, or might not, want two classes of slot cars again.

I would love to run another Monte Carlo series within that time frame. Finally an opportunity to run the Lancia Stratos Group 4 rally car. I can’t wait.Marty

If our second choice for a rally class is the RevoSlot Alfa and other car, I would like to also run those cars on the big track. Fairfield Meadows I call it. Those RevoSlot cars are so good I hate to take them out of service. My Porsche from a few years ago was one of my favorites. We could even run on the big track as SCCA TransAm U2.5 and IMSA similar displacement. I recently stumbled across a metal chassis, used instead of a 3d plastic replacement. That might offer more cars to run with the RevoSlot cars.

Once again I would like to see the club run the Group 2 cars from BRM. These mini 1/24 scale cars include the Alfa, Ford Escort, Opel Kadett, and the BMW 2002. This would be run on the main track.
I would also like to run a BMW E30 series with either a Fly or Scalextric car and a 3D chassis. These early touring cars would make for a fun series. This could be run on either track.
We could run another Monte Carlo series for the next ten year time – ’70-’80. This would be run on the rally track.
I would like to run the BRM 1/24 scale Group C cars that we never finished in 2019. This would be run on the main track.
LeMans 1970 and 1971. Any car that ran in those two years. Now that Slot.it offers a Ferrari 512M there is a good Ferrari option. This would be run on the main track.

I have also been having fun with the Policar vintage F1. They look great And can be made to run well without breaking the bank.

I would love to run the Policar classic F1 cars. They are a little more complex and very fragile. An off in one of these cars can result in some real scale car damage. I would like to think that would mean racers would be more cautious knowing the extent of the damage they would have to repair.

So,to elaborate a bit on the offsite race discussed at the Sept 25 meeting,
My thought is that we could have a one-off event out here in the sticks at my wood track. It is two lanes, yellow is 34.33 ft, and green is 33,5 ft. It can be run in either direction, and each lane has its own variable power supply. My suggestion was for a one-off race with the Policar vintage F1 cars, but it could be something else. I’d like to invite club members to make the trip down, run some laps, and give some input on what might be fun for you to run. Just let me know if you are interested, and we can set up a time.
I see the race happening in the spring so if there is a good turnout we can overflow into the carport and have a cookout

Marc – I love the idea. I would be up for running just about anything on your track. I think it might be best to run something we have already run so there is no additional cost to members to build another car for this one-off event.
I would be up for holding something similar at my small home track as well. It could be a one-off event run in an El Piloto – IROC style where everyone runs the same cars. I have a couple of NSR Porsche 911’s that would be great for an IROC event.
There would of course be food and beverages.

I would like to run the 1/24 Gr. C class as well.
I like the idea of the RevoSlot 1/32 Alfa, Escort, and rumored BMW 2002tii. Run this later in the year to get additional liveries, but buy early if you like what is for sale in October 2022. Run it as 20 laps on the rally track, then without replacing parts go 20 laps on the green lane of big track. ALL cars must have sufficient ground clearance to not rub the chassis on the track tape including if they jump the mound.
I am a strong proponent of a 1/32 TransAm race with 3d chassis. Maybe limit to less than 25k motors for slightly more realistic speed.
I can go along with the traditional slot.it Gr. C race if we are provided the specs to run the National Champ Jaguar mods on our existing cars, or limit the Jaguars to the tires and track width that fit our existing cars.
I also like the LeMans Ford vs Ferrari challenge race and allow other cars from that series that we not so famous.
Run Monte Carlo in next decade. Maybe two classes with the slower class running tires limited to 8.0mm this time. If you look at the reference I cited earlier in the forum you will see there were multiple classes run in the race.

Heck, limit it to 18k to cut down on de-slots and rollovers.
Would this also include an under 2.5L class?

DATTO, I like the idea of the U2.5 class, but the evil Porsche 911’s would show up and dominate. The RevoSlot Alfa and Escort cars would also need to be excluded. I loved the real cars in the day. The first race I saw with the pony cars some guys showed up with showroom Z28’s, only safety mods, and the front wheels were getting squashed every which way, but the Penske cars flew like race cars. Still had blue smaller v8 Barracudas, Valiants/Darts, Nova (cheater black/gold).

Scalextric BMW M3 E30 Race Series
I see this series as being a stock-ish series with tight rules on what you can and cannot use for parts. The goal would be to make the series as inexpensive and competitive as possible.
Here is a list of the Scalextric BMW E30 cars that are currently available. All of these cars would use the Scalextric/Slot.it PCR chassis. Take a look at the list and let me know if you have any questions.

Russell – on the BMW series – we have to select either Fly or Scalextric. The Fly cars are wider and lower and will be the obvious choice if we allow both to be used. The Fly cars would be limited to the BMW M3 E30 and not the GTR version that is even wider. Rally cars can be used and the co-driver can either be left in or removed.

But can I use a Scalextric, if I like the livery for special reasons, as long as I don’t complain about the disparity in the dimensions?
-
October 21, 2022 at 11:27 AM #18338porsche917Moderator
I would also like to submit that the BMW M3 E30 series could be run on the rally track as the cars did compete in numerous rallys in the late 80’s in Group A after Group B was banned. The cars had some great results.
This would give us our second rally track race while also giving us one more option on the road track.
Thoughts?

Since the Policar Vintage F1 liveries are limited, I doubt we’ll want to force everyone to have unique ones…but I am claiming Ronnie Peterson’s Lotus 72E number 1, just in case. 🙂

StabnSteer – I totally respect your choice. I will avoid that car.
I was actually surprised at how many liveries are available on Policar’s website. I think we could each run a unique livery if we wanted. Having said that, I have not looked to see what cars are actually still available.

Who is the BRM Group 2 Manager? The BRM Group 2 cars are listed on the BRM website. The little Simca 1000’s are not shown in Group 2, although I thought I saw that on a Simca online. I want to buy a BMW and discovered there is a LeMans flared fender version, and a SVRA stock fender with the little fender spat. Do we care which fender version we use? I am eager to put my money on a car while they are still in stock.

Randy – We talked about the BRM Group 2 series at this past Saturday’s club race and meeting. We all agreed that the series will be limited to the following cars:
Alfa Romeo GTA, Ford Escort (not the TTS version), BMW 2002, and the soon-to-arrive Ford Capri RS2600.
All of these cars share the same chassis layout and running gear.
Both versions of the BMW are allowed.

In looking at running the Policar classic F1 cars for the 2023 season I did a deeper dive into all of the models to see if there were any significant differences between them.
All of the cars with the exception of the two newest Lotus cars are basically all the same. The two Lotus cars that are outside the norm have rear wheels/tires that are wider than all the others. Both of these cars could be allowed to run in the series as long as they change their rear wheels/tires to match the ones on all the other cars.
Here is a complete list for comparison.

David and Erik, did you run the Policar f1’s with the plastic wheels? Did you true them? Do you expect to use the correct size aluminum wheels to be able to true the tires? Erik, what brand tire truer do you have? What volts were you running the cars?

Datto – the decision to allow the Scirocco is up to the series manager. We discussed it and felt the car would be outside the time frame for the current car list and may offer an advantage due to the shorter rear end on the car. I would say this is still up for discussion with the series manager.

Answers:
Yes – I used the stock plastic wheels on non-trued tires. I did purchase the aluminum wheels and replacement F22 tires for the car, but have not done anything with them yet. My tire truer is a Tire Razor – haven’t tried putting the wheels/tires on it…but I think it will work. We were running the cars at 12v.

Datto – I just looked up the Group 2 cars from the European Touring Car championship on the Racing Sports Cars website. It looks like the Scirocco first raced in 1975 whereas the other cars all raced earlier in the 70’s. I would leave this up to the race director.

At the original class selection meeting we had a paper with classes listed. The Monte Carlo 72-82 had a list of cars either specified or suggested for this period. Can we get that list in a proposed form on our website? Understanding there may be some overlap from the 2022 race that would either be in, or not, like our Porsche 914/6’s and 911’s.

Just ordered:
Policar PCAR04BMarch 701 Jackie Stewart in his tartan helmet. Won’t be changing that livery and helmet.
RevoSlot RS0132 Alfa GTA dark blue #93 I think it raced at Mid-Ohio when I saw the races. I cannot imagine changing the big fancy car number to avoid a duplicate, but it will be on the rally track by itself. I will definitely run this for fun on the big track too.
BRM BMW Kleber 91 1975 Le Mans. Kleber was the BFGoodrich French affiliate in 1958-1961 when we lived in Germany. It became part of Michelin like BFG.
So I am done unless the Monte Carlo rally cars don’t get covered by what I have.

I tested my 1/32 RevoSlot Alfa Romeo on the rally track yesterday and it does not hit the track on the main straight hump. My tires have not been trued, so car is out-of-the-box ride height. It took the turns fine, but the track was so dirty, by the third lap the tires lost grip up hill running clockwise.
