In our July club meeting we started talking about what series we would like to run in 2014. Here is what I am thinking about and would like to get everyones comments and feedback.
Ostorero F1 series
Can Am – open series that can be run later in the year when Slot It should have their McLaren ready so members can run a stock car or can build a car of their choice.
Slot It Group C – unlimited motor, unlimited tires and unlimited running configuration
El Piloto – BRM Porsche 917’s
LeMans 1970 – unlimited, pick any car that ran in LeMans 1970 and lets recreate the movie, sort of.
Targa Florio – lets pick a year and run a series similar to Mille Miglia where its a timed race and not a lap race.

I want to run a larger scale as part of our 2014 series, but I would rather run a 1:27/28 scale using the Kyosho Mini-Z bodies on the PN Slot Group Mini-Z chassis.
The price of entry is similar, probably less. Less than $120 for a chassis and body. Wheels and tires for another $40 to 50?
Food for thought.

I would be up for running a 1/28 scale mini-z series. Are you thinking we would run a spec chassis or would we open everything up – chasssis, motor, tires, etc? What series would we match with the bodies? Group C, GT, etc…

If we do it as a the El Piloto series we just spec it out… Even if we don’t do it as El Piloto the availability of parts will keep it fairly close to a spec series. I would at least spec the chassis and motor. The wheels and tires might wind up being a defacto spec, but folks can experiment.
The GT class has the most variation in bodies for a standard series, we could stay traditional for an El Piloto series with a Group C pack, or we could go with Porsche GT3 cars, or even something like a Lamborghini Murcielago, or Ferrari 599. Kinda mix things up a bit. 😉
I think that even if the cost to build one is break-even with the BRM’s we’ll realize savings in parts as the gears should last beyond one race.

All,
we should vote on what to race in 2014 at our October meeting, which is coming up shortly. Please keep the racing classes suggestions coming.

Unlimited Trans Am? Maybe we could get this to work if we changed the rules to offer the same construction as we are with the upcoming Scalextric GT series. I think everyone likes the cars but they are so challenging to drive in the stock configuration.

Brian,
That is a good question. I assumed it would be the 70’s.
All,
I have just added all the 2014 proposed series to another topic; to simplify things, please review and add your suggestions here: 2014 Proposed Series.

I was thinking we were talking about the 70’s. I know we have run these before but this time we would allow more modifications to the cars similar to the upcoming Scalextric GT series. Better guides, motors, gears and lots of ballast. The only thing we might want to consider is a limit to the RPM of the motor. Other than that I am good with this.

I don’t know what it says about me but I watched all of it and enjoyed most of it. Queen was great as well as Bill Withers and Lean on Me. What a great song. Could be a possible theme song for a BRM series.

Brought back good memories. High School, College and Girls. Great cars too!
