I love the look of some of these boxes, especially the stained versions, but I’m concerned about the weight. How heavy are these guys on average?

They are heavy .. it also depends on how much stuff you put inside them.

The NTC boxes have a listed weight of 15 to 16 pounds empty. That could get up to the 20+ pound range really quick with all the tools and supplies in them.

Ary – Have you heard anything back from the guy at NTC about a possible discount?

Haven’t heard anything from NTC yet. I will wait until tomorrow afternoon and then I will call.

Ok, Jeff is the owner of NTC. He cannot match the 25% by JC. He asked me to get the list of boxes we would want including scale and type of finish (stain, paint or none); he will them send us a discounted rate.

1- We don’t need to get the same box.
2 -The prices listed are for unfinished 1/32 scale boxes: https://www.northerntouchcarpentry.com/slot_car_boxes.cfm
3 – He does not have any box in stock (it will be a while)

My choice would be the Full Monte – Autumn Hills Edition, 1/24 scale, no finish. This box is listed for $215 but for 1/24 it costs $250. Even with 20% discount this box would cost $200 + shipping.

Tell you guys the truth I still want to get a quote from the wood worker I know. I can ask watherver size I want + the guy is local. I don’t feel like spending $200+ on a box.

                Ary,

I’ll be interested as well. $200 for a pit box is a bit more than I was willing to spend. For that I can buy a couple of tools as stab at making my own.

No deal the guy I know either … he said $600 for labor only on 4 boxes.
I guess we need to go back and review the options.

I checked with two friends of mine that make custom wood furniture, as a hobby and small second income, and both said the pit box prices for all the boxes we were looking at was about what they would expect. Neither of them could build a box any cheaper no matter what the volume. It looks like we either build our own, buy a tackle box, or buy one from the listed suppliers. I would like to say I have the time to build one but I am currently working on this slot car project at a hobby shop. I know, you have heard that one.

Ouch! Did you get the floor fixed before your wife came home?

It’s getting fixed, should be done Monday and she only gets home a week after that.

I can see it all now……

                            Ary: “Welcome home, honey!”

Ary’s wife: “What happened to the floors?”

                            Ary: “What do you mean?”

Ary’s wife: “They’re not the same shade and they’re new.”

                            Ary: “You noticed that…. err… I mean….. I got them cleaned…. sort of…..”

                            Ary’s wife: “Uh huh…….”
