I have run into Ferrari F40 Policar plastic rear wheel truing problems. One rear wheel came off of the car axle very easy and was just spinning loosely on the tire truer. It was not truing. I have replaced the rear plastic wheels with Slot.it 17mm wheels to match the Policar size and Slot.it f30 tires. However, the tire hits the motor shaft on the the non-gear side of the car. I have cut off the excess shaft. It is running ok, but has not had ballast or gearing adjustments.
I have abandoned my McLaren and sold it to Steve due to problems more complicated than I could deal with.

I have forgotten what we voted on for this series. What are the cars that are eligible?

Randy and All,
The series is a Slot It or Policar Ferrari F40 vs, the Mr Slotcar McLaren F1 GTR, Specific modifications and rules are yet to be posted.
The issue of the motor shaft hitting the tire can be easily solved by cutting off the motor shaft. You can also run the motor in an inline configuration that will eliminate the problem as well,
If you purchase a Policar F4o you will have to replace the rear wheels with 17×8 or 17×10 Slot It’s as the stock ones are impossible to use much less true the tires.

Shawn said in an email that the Mr. SlotCar McLaren must run the angle winder. I don’t know if this is an issue to be discussed.

Russell,
We have tried the anglewinder set up and like most anglewinder set up’s it did not work. I purchased a short can in-line pod to see if that would help the McLaren get close to the speed of the F40. Stephen is conducting the tests. Results and rules will be posted shortly, I hope.

So the testing stopped pretty quick. The inline post does not fit. I had originally thought the interior was hitting the shaft of the motor but after grinding the shaft off the motor is still hitting the interior. I do not want to grind on it before I get a ruling on it. I will be at the track tomorrow with the car if anyone wants to look at it.
On a side note if the McLaren requires an anglewinder this is will be a F40 spec series

I look forward to the results of your continued testing with the anglewinder McLaren. If this becomes to challenging I believe we have two choices.
One: We could easily make this a Slot It McLaren vs Slot It Ferrari F40 series or
Two: Open it up to any GT car that ran at LeMans in ’96. This would be a wide range of Fly slot cars that could run a CG Slots 3D chassis. The list of cars would be Porsche GT1, Lister Storm, Marcos, and the Venturi. This series could run as a limited modification series to limit some of the crazier modifications.
We need to nail this down sooner than later so we can get cars prepared.

How about the full GT list for the 1996 race? Bring back the Porsche GT2, Viper, Corvette, etc.

Randy,
The struggle with that is keeping it from turning into a spec race of Revo Slot Porsches as we’re running that now. I’ll have my Mr Slotcar McLaren and Policar soon, so I’ll have more information on the series in the next couple of weeks.

I’m still pulling for the McLaren, and would buy another if we find a way to tame the beast. Maybe some gear changes or even a motor and gear transplant. I would not be surprised if this turns out to be a series with modifications allowed.
Some research shows that 1997 Le Mans had a real large variety of GT cars. Slot.it has a Nissan R390 GT1 that looks pretty sporty. Avant has the Lotus Elise GT. I would not mind disqualifying metal chassis cars like the RevoSlot Porsche GT2.
My Ferrari F40 runs much better since I replaced the 32 tooth gear with a 33 tooth. (thank you David).
