I would like to propose a 2 hour BRM endurance race for June 11th – LeMans weekend. The race would be for two man teams with each team member racing three 20 minute heats for a total of six 20 minute heats – 2 hours. I would like to get an idea of how many of you would be interested in participating in this event.

May 8, 2011 at 6:51 PM #1352Sounds good. Pink motors?
May 8, 2011 at 7:57 PM #1353I'd be up for that. Just tell us what motors to run.

May 8, 2011 at 9:16 PM #1354And gears, and tires, and CA glue, and ….
Build it strong.
Keep it simple.
Make it work.

This is ONE car racing for 2 hours, correct? Pink motors allowed?

May 15, 2011 at 12:30 AM #1356Lady and Gents,
Late Saturday afternoon, I ran a simulated 20 minute heat using the pink motor, shore 30 (stock) tires, and 9/36 gears. The track voltage was 10.12 volts, blue lane. Here are my results:
275 laps
median lap time 4.35
fastest lap 4.24
I had one de-slot in the esses. Don’t glance at the clock when approaching the esses. The biggest suprise was that after running hard for 20 straight minutes, the pink motor didn’t seem any hotter than it does after running a 5 or 10 minute heat.
When I stopped running and turned away from the track, I was slightly dizzy feeling, but recovered quickly. I guess watching your car turn 275 consecutive laps can do that to you.The first 10 minutes dragged slightly, but I got my second wind for the final 10 minutes.

May 15, 2011 at 12:33 PM #1357Jim,
How do you think you would have felt after doing two more 20 minute heats?
How was the wear on the following items?
Tires-Rear
Tires-Front
Braid
Bushings
Did you stop to clean the tires at any time? Did your front tires pick up rubber and cause the front to bounce?
Any suggestions you have for the upcoming endurance race?
Thanks,
Marty
May 15, 2011 at 1:02 PM #1358Marty,
Here are my observations:
Rear Tires: Wear looked normal with slight accumulation of rubber on outer edges, just like in shorter duration heats.
Front Tires: Normal buildup of rubber on outer edges. May have induced slight bounce, but really not anything out of the ordinary.
Braid: I was running the thinner silver braid. After 20 minutes, areas of bare copper are starting to appear.
Bushings: No detectable wear. I did lube front and rear axles, the motor bushings, and the gears before starting the race. I did NOT lube the braids as I currently don’t have anything to do that with. I did NOT stop and clean the tires during the session. Grip was good and cleaning was not deemed necessary.
I’m not sure how I would have felt after 3 sessions, especially back to back to back. Kings was closing, so I didn’t have time for any additional running.

May 18, 2011 at 1:18 AM #1363All right fellas,
Finally saw some light setting up a team race. We will not be using PC Lap Counter, we will use the good old Trackmate. The only way to make this work is to add the teams as drivers (combine all 3 drivers in 1) instead off adding the individual drivers to the rotation.
Please let me know the name of your team, it will be easier that way. Get your creative juices going and come up with something nice.
Team 1, represented by color gray: Ary, Pricilla, Marty.Team 2, represented by color red: Jim, Clark, Russell.Team 3, represented by color purple: Shawn, Roy, Brian. Here is the rotation sequence:
This table will be available the day of the race. You won’t see your name on the timing system, your team name will be displayed.June 5, 2011 at 7:00 AM #1379I see the LeMans Endurance race is not posted on the calendar for June 11, 2011. Since Russell will be in Ft. Worth for the Indy Car Race, have we cancelled this event?

June 5, 2011 at 7:02 AM #1380Jim and All,
I thougth we would continue with it but I am very open to moving it to the 25th of June. This would allow me to watch more of LeMans when it is on Speed. I will bring it up today with the group and see what everyone would like to do.
Marty
June 5, 2011 at 7:03 AM #1381If we move it to June 25th, I’ll not be able to make it. We have a scouting camp out that weekend.
June 5, 2011 at 7:20 AM #1382I would like to propose a move of the BRM Endurance Race to July 2nd. That is July 4th weekend and some of you may have holiday plans so please get back to me and let me know if this weekend will work for you. I would like to hear back from everyone by the 11th so we can put it on the calendar.
